The Department of Labor recently announced new minimum wage rates, called Adverse Effect Wage Rates (AEWRs), that employers must offer and pay, at the time work is performed, to nonimmigrant H-2A workers and workers in corresponding employment beginning on the effective date of the new wage rates. Job Duties:
Workers will be required to perform all duties necessary to plant, grow, and harvest a variety of vegetables. Activities include, but are not limited to, transplanting, hoeing, pruning, weeding, fertilization, working with irrigation systems, preparing products for market, and other misc duties. Workers will cultivate soil in preparation for planting the crops. Pre-harvest activities include planting produce and duties to promote growth of crops. For harvest workers must bend and stoop to pick produce from vines or bush and cut by hand or knife, as applicable. Workers will place harvested produce into field containers. Full containers weigh up to 50lbs. Workers will carry full containers to field bins and empty. Workers are required to discard any rotted or unacceptable produce and eliminate all unwanted debris before placing into bins. Bins are loaded onto trucks or trailers for transport from fields to appropriate location. Extreme care not to bruise or damage produce must be taken at all times. Workers will pack produce, load / unload trucks, and stack containers for storage or market. May perform miscellaneous duties such as clear/repair fence rows, clean/repair farm buildings, dig ditches, cut firewood, feed farm animals, and other miscellaneous farm activities required by employer. May be required to have ability for operating a variety of farm equipment and smaller hand tools. Tools and equipment must be cleaned or repaired as applicable. Work site must be cleaned daily.
