Job Duties:

Duties may vary from time to time. Workers will perform assigned duties as instructed by their supervisor. Strawberries - Fruit pickers, harvest, sort, and gather fruit with their hands. Gently remove fruit from branches and vines making sure not to damage fruit. Pickers are expected to work quickly and +. Strawberries grow on low-lying plants, so you must have the endurance and strength to bend over for a long period of time. You will need to be knelled for a long period of time collecting the strawberries, once you have removed fruit from the plant you will need to place them in a bucket carefully so no injury may occur to them. Once the bucket is full, you will empty into crates and boxes. Fruit pickers must be detail-oriented, fast and reliable so they can remove fruit without loss. Prune strawberry bushes by hand using pruning shears and loppers. Remove debris from fields using hoes, shovels, baskets, etc. Fruit harvesters must carefully, yet quickly, inspect fruit and bushes for signs of disease, insect manifestations, worms, rot and remove or replace bushes as directed by farm manager. Each worker must pick the plants clean of all ripe fruit. It is the picker's responsibility to sort good product from contaminated or rotting fruit to ensure produce is routed to appropriate facilities for cleaning and distribution. Shovel, haul, spread manure, and dig holes, ditches, and trenches. Use hand tools such as shovels, trowels, hoes, tampers, pruning hooks, shears, and knives. Duties may include tilling soil, applying fertilizers, transplanting, pulling weeds, raking, cleaning around shed area, thinning or pruning crops, applying pesticides, cleaning, grading, and packing harvested product. May repair fences, work in packing house and farm buildings and participate in irrigation activities. Watermelon - Workers will perform assigned duties as instructed by their supervisor. Perform manual labor to hand cut and pack watermelons. Use hand tools such as shears and knives. Duties also include cleaning, loading, and unloading harvested products. Duties will also include operating forklift, assisting mechanic, and pulling weeds. Grade and sort products according to factors such as color, species, length, width, appearance, feel, and quality to ensure correct processing and usage. Discard inferior or defective products and/or foreign matter, and place acceptable products in containers for further processing. Weigh products or estimate their weight, visually or by feel. Place products in containers according to grade and mark grades on containers. Measure, weigh, and count products and materials. Examine and inspect containers, materials, and products to ensure that packing specifications are met. Workers must perform manual labor to pull plastic from the field and load onto a trailer. Row Crop Production: Workers may drive and operate farm machinery to clear, plant, cultivate, harvest, and store grain crops such as corn, wheat, soybeans, milo, etc. Attach farm implements such as plow, disc, drill, planter, cultivator, along with any and all row crop equipment. Workers will perform tasks such as lubricating equipment, repair and replace parts on various equipment with supervision, unloading grain into storage bins, and cleaning out grain storage bins. Workers may also be asked to help transport and escort farm machinery. This may include road side tire repair and clearing necessary obstructions to allow equipment to pass through. Removal of irrigation equipment. May drive workers to and from fields and/or grocery. Special Requirements:

Applicants must be 18 years or older. Three (3) months experience in grading, sorting, and loading strawberries and watermelons, use of mechanical harvesting, cultivating, and planting equipment. Employer may conduct criminal background check on all new employees. Valid Driver's License is required. All tools, supplies, and equipment will be provided at no cost to the workers. Clean and maintain work areas. Must assist with all Good Agricultural Practices policies. Workers should come prepared wearing appropriate clothing and footwear for the environmental and working conditions described. Cell phone can only be used during breaks, emergencies and to communicate with the supervisor. All tools, supplies and equipment will be provided at no cost to the workers. Lifting requirement is from 5 to 60 lbs.
