Job Duties:
All applicants must be able, willing and qualified to perform the work described in this job description and must be available for the entire period of employment specified in box 3 & 4, page 1 Workers are needed to raise and care for our honeybees. The worker will build and maintain beehives, extract and bottle honey, remove hive parasites and maintaining the health of the hive. Workers will assemble beehives to the desired specifications, force bees from a hive using a smoke pot to inspect the hive, destroy excess queen bee cells to prevent the division of a colony, treat hives for parasites and remove vermin, extracting honey from beehive frames. Workers will also cultivate queen bees to sell to other apiaries as well as split colonies. Workers will perform other farm-related duties such as carpentry and other basic woodworking tasks. The employer will furnish to workers without cost all tools and equipment required to perform assigned duties. Workers must be able to work in various extreme weather conditions from damp and cold spring and fall days to hot and humid summer days. Work is physically demanding requiring workers to stand, bend, stoop, and kneel for extended periods of time, as well as kneeling or work on knees during specified tasks. Workers must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis. Workers must be available for work Monday through Saturday. Worker must be able to supervise the work of other workers and train how to work bees. The ability to stay calm under pressure is a must. Work will start in South Carolina on March 27 2023, then will travel to Vermont on May 27 2023. The worker will stay in Vermont until the end of the work period on October 15 2023.
