Job Duties:
Workers will perform assign duties as instructed by their supervisor. Harvesting strawberries and blackberries: Workers will walk through assigned row while bending and reaching to pick ripe strawberries and blackberries by hand. Workers will carefully pick all the berries of correct color and size and without bruising or damaging the plant and/or fruit. Strawberries and blackberries will be picked, graded and packed into clam shell containers according to supervisor's instructions ensuring that there are no leaks. Once clamshells are full, workers will place them into boxes and carry full boxes to trailers moving through the fields at the end of the rows where fruit is inspected for quality. Workers must continuously examine, count and check harvested berries, plants and produce. Defective and low quality fruit/plugs will not be accepted and must be discarded. Strawberry Transplanting: Workers will transplants strawberry plants from trays onto pre-dug holes in plastic covered beds and covering roots with soil. Remove tips from the strawberry plants that are viable plugs and place into trays and carry full trays to a trailer that is moving through the field. Strawberry plants will be carefully dug up manually once the plants are correct size and maturity. Workers will place a rubber band around plants and place banded plants into boxes. Once box is full, the workers will carry and load the box onto a moving trailer on the field. Load strawberry plants into nursery stock cooling units. Cabbage harvesting: The cabbage Cutters will line up in designated cabbage rows. Workers will bend over each cabbage to cut. After cutting the cabbage, workers will inspect and trim. Workers will then put the cabbage in a bag and put the bag on a stainless steel table that will be continually pushed behind the cutters as they proceed on their rows. Workers should be able to keep up with the machine. Harvesting of zucchini/Squash: Once at the picking location, doing a row at a time, workers will move down the rows plucking the vegetables from the plants and putting them in a container. Once the container is full the worker will take the container to the truck and dump the content. The worker will go back to his picking area and fill his container up again, repeating the process through the work day. Planting of fruits and vegetables: A tractor will go over the fields making holes for the plants, workers will grab a tray of plants from the truck, walking down the rows the worker will put one plants per hole, when finish with the tray, the worker will walk back to the truck and grab another tray of plants, repeating the process through the work day. Harvesting of Fruit and Vegetables: Once at the picking location, doing a row at a time, workers will move down the rows plucking the crop from the plants and putting them in a container. Once the container is full the worker will take the container to the truck and dump the content. The worker will go back to his picking area and fill his container up again, repeating the process through the work day. Packing: When the bus is full, it will be taken to the packing house where the workers will unload the fruits and vegetables and put it in a conveyer belt that will transport them into the packing house where it will be separated by size, labeled and packed. Field Packing: Workers will perform various activities associated with packing produce harvested in the fields. Workers may be required to grade, fill, level, make boxes, and stack produce. Note: The Packing houses are located inside the Farms and at least 50% of the product processed belongs to the Fixed Site Employer.

This type of work, involves working conditions that require tremendous stamina, a high level of physical activity in cold or extremely hot conditions in direct sunlight and in adverse weather such as rain. The work requires a high level of physical conditioning. Due to the type of work involved, there is a Probationary Period of five (5) days beginning with the first day of employment, to show possession of the requisite physical strength and endurance to perform this type of work.
