Job Duties:

Workers will perform assigned duties as instructed by their supervisor. Duties may vary from time to time. Shovel, haul, spread manure, & dig holes, ditches, & trenches. Irrigation maintenance. Manually harvest vegetables, horticultural specialties & field crops (cucumbers, eggplant, green beans, tomatoes, and cukes.) Use hand tools such as shovels, trowels, hoes, tampers, pruning hooks, shears, & knives, & any other farm equipment related to planting cultivating, & harvesting vegetables, & watermelons. Duties may include tilling soil, applying fertilizers, transplanting, pulling weeds, raking, cleaning around shed area, thinning/pruning crops, applying pesticides, cleaning, grading, & packing harvested product. Watermelon - Perform manual labor to hand cut & pack watermelons. Use hand tools such as shears and knives. Duties also include cleaning, loading, & unloading harvested products. Grade & sort products according to factors such as color, species, length, width, appearance, feel, & quality to ensure correct processing & usage. Discard inferior/defective products estimate their weight, visually/by feel. Place products in containers according to grade & mark grades on containers. Measure, weigh, & count products & materials. Examine & inspect containers, materials & products to ensure that packing specifications are met. At the beginning of the contract workers may water and apply fertilizers to the vegetables and melons. Jobs associated with this employment are paid by the piece rate of WATERMELON CUTTERS $40.00 per bus, the workers will cut an average of 1.433 buses per hour, WATERMELON LOADERS $100.00 per bus, workers will load an average of .717 buses in order to meet the production standard. Citrus – Workers will perform assigned duties as instructed by their supervisor. Duties may vary from time to time. Following the Supervisors instructions, the worker will place a picking sack over their shoulder and carry an 18' to 22' ladder from the field truck to the area of the grove to be harvested. The picking sack is a canvas bag equipped with a shoulder strap for support, an opening for the insertion of fruit, and an opening to remove fruit. A fully loaded sack weighs between approximately 80 and 100 pounds, depending upon the size, condition, and variety of fruit. Worker positions ladder against the tree and within reach of the fruit in a leaning position, taking care not to break limbs, damage the tree, knock off fruit, or interfere with other workers, in a secure position to prevent slipping or falling and possible injury to themselves or other workers. Worker will remove fruit from the tree and place into pick sack. When picking sack is full, take full sack to fruit container located in the grove and drop fruit from pick sack into container. To perform this kind of work, the worker must be physically able to harvest citrus, fill his assigned sacks, and transport it to the packing house. The employee must be able to climb ladders with extra weight of the sack. Workers may assist in trimming, irrigation, fertilize, maintenance of citrus trees. Packing House: Workers will be required to perform miscellaneous packing housework, including grading, clean-up, stacking packed cartons, dumping fruit from cartons, and constructing boxes. The packinghouse is owned by Bar L Ranch to which, only their products will be going in/out of packinghouse, packinghouse is located on the farm.

Special Requirements:

Applicants must be 18 years or older. Perform prolonged bending reaching and lifting to 60lbs. All tools, equipment and supplies will be provided at no cost to workers. Workers may repair fences and farm building and participate in irrigation activities. Work in extreme weather conditions in outdoor agricultural fields and involves exposure to sun, wind, rain, soil, mud, dust, heat, cold and other natural elements. Workers must be able to climb, stand, sit, stoop, s quad, kneel, crouch, bend (from waist), push, pull, reach, and lift. Workers must be able to withstand working in the direct sunlight and weather conditions ranging from hot and humid weather, moderate rain, and cold while performing their required job duties.
