- Job Duties:
- We are a family farm growing corn and soybeans in Iowa. We use John Deere equipment and the Green Star precision farming system. Planting is in the spring, and we do our own spraying before we plant and once the crops are up. Harvest is in the fall. Tillage and anhydrous application are also done in the fall until the weather stops us. During harvest grain is hauled directly from the field by semis. It takes quite a few people to operate all the equipment to keep everything running during these months. Before we plant and after we harvest, we do upkeep and maintenance to the farm ground such as fixing tile holes, building terraces and fixing waterways. Throughout the year we haul our grain to elevators, river terminals or processing plants via semi. We also have a cow/calf herd with calving season being in February and March. The cows are moved to the barn for this which requires more time and labor to keep dry bedding in the barn, haul manure and keep them fed with grain and hay bales. In the summer months we bale our own hay for cattle feed and bale corn stalks in the fall for bedding. Job duties will include: Baling hay, mowing yards, washing/cleaning vehicles and equipment. You will work more hours when we are in the field in the spring and fall. You must submit a copy of your driving record for our insurance purposes. prepare fields for planting, attach farm implements such as plows, discs, sprayers, or harvesters to tractors, using bolts and hand tools, operate tractors, planters, manure spreaders, operate other farm equipment, engage in planting, weeding, spraying and/or harvesting activities, fertilize, dust, and spray crops, load hoppers, containers, or conveyors to feed machines with products, using forklifts, transfer augers, suction gates, shovels, or pitchforks, manipulate controls to set, activate, and adjust mechanisms on machinery, mix specified materials or chemicals, and dump solutions, powders, or seeds into machinery, load crops and unload crops, operate equipment to harvest crops, drive trucks to haul crops, supplies, and tools, inspect, adjust, and complete routine maintenance and repairs on equipment.
