Job Duties:
Worker will be required to perform a variety of duties related to the production of hay, corn, pumpkin, barley, squash, and seasonal produce. The majority of the work activities during the overall contract period, however, will be related to general farm work/irrigation/crop production. General Farm Work will include the following responsibilities: maintain, drive, attach, and operate farm implements/tractors/equipment to till soil, plant, cultivate, fertilize, and harvest crops; make minor mechanical adjustments and repairs on farm machinery; may mix and/or spray chemicals (according to appropriate restrictive use laws, when/if applicable); remove undesirable and excess growth from crops or farm grounds; paint/repair/maintain farm structures; replace/repair fencing; perform general cleanup of farm areas; load/unload trucks; husk/shell/de-tassel corn; operate vehicle, motor bike, or all-terrain vehicle in the course of performing duties; prepare fields/plant/spray/weed and irrigate; plant seeds/plants by walking behind tractors to observe planter (unclog planter if necessary); weed using farm hand tools to remove weeds from fields; observe general condition of plants and apply the appropriate care; pollinate/prune/transplant/pinch plants and cull appropriately to ensure development of product; maintain and repair structures/grounds; care for plants during growing process; pick up/handle/climb ladders; clear property; prepare plastic growing beds; inspect growing crops for signs of disease, insect manifestations, worms, or rot; prepare for harvesting of crop including spreading liners in bins and rolling bins into blocks by hand; hand pick, harvest, sort, and gather crop by hand; pick or cut crop from plant, soil, stem, or root; place crop in buckets or bags; identify and remove crop that is misshapen, damaged, or inferior; pick crop from plant according to grade, color and size by grasping crop with hands and removing from plant in a motion so as not to harm adjacent plants on plant branches; carry harness, bucket or bag of up to 20 lbs. and place crop into plastic lugs which hold approximately 30 pounds of produce; prevent bruising of crop or breaking of branches; use small knives or tools to cut crops from branches or vines; pull produce from the ground; cut tops of produce off with scissors; place produce in bags and lay in field to mature; even out rows for harvest; gather bagged produce from field and transfer into bins; prepare boxes for packing products; harvest, pack, and store crop; guide/harvest crops into packaging; prepare crops for shipment; load crops on trucks or field conveyors; load/unload trucks or trailers; place full buckets in trailer; hand crop off to or receive from another worker for placement in boxes located on trailers; place crop in boxes located on trailer; drive/operate equipment to stack/ organize bins at the storage facility; clean fields after harvest; perform any other labor considered necessary for the efficient structure of properties.. Irrigation duties will include the following: Drip Irrigation: connect pipes/ drip tape; check alignment of pipe/drip tape and adjust for proper water distribution; attach lines to water supply; turn on pump; turn valves to start flow of water; disassemble lines and carry pipes/drip tape across fields at specified intervals; move pipes/drip tape through freshly irrigated crops and/or plowed fields where mud may be deep at times; lift and carry pipe sections weighing approximately 40 pounds on a sustained basis; walk behind tractor to assist in installing/laying drip irrigation; move drip hoses; maintain/repair drip irrigation; flush lines; remove drip irrigation and layflat from fields prior to harvest; ensure layflat spools correctly when removing from field.
