The Department of Labor recently announced new minimum wage rates, called Adverse Effect Wage Rates (AEWRs), that employers must offer and pay, at the time work is performed, to nonimmigrant H-2A workers and workers in corresponding employment beginning on the effective date of the new wage rates. Job Duties:
Workers will be responsible for driving the workers to the field(s), housing, and grocery store, and doctor appts. Workers will make sure to bring beverages, ice, etc. from the shed or store if needed. The workers may help with laying plastic, building beds, planting and harvesting watermelons, cantaloupe, tomatoes, bell peppers, cucumbers, fruits & vegetables. Workers may help other workers write down the location, hours worked besides their name on the time sheets. Duties also include tying, loading, and unloading stakes, cleaning. Shovel, haul, spread manure, dig holes, ditches, and trenches. Use hand tools such as shovels, trowels, hoes, tampers, pruning hooks, shears, and knives. Duties may include tilling soil, applying fertilizers, transplanting, pulling weeds, raking, cleaning around shed area, thinning or pruning crops, applying pesticides, cleaning, grading, and packing harvested product. Inspect field irrigation systems; replace damaged pipes, valves, water jets, sprinklers, etc. using necessary equipment. **The ability of an employee to safely operate machinery and vehicles will be left up to the discretion of management. To ensure the safety of all employees, those interested in operating machinery and vehicles must be able to communicate with employer and adequately follow instructions given by management. Management reserves the right to restrict employees from operational duties who do not show a proficiency to effectively communicate with management and may therefore place other employees’ safety at risk. **Use hand tools such as: shovels, hoes, brooms, scissors, shears, and knives. Duties will also include operating forklift, assisting with minor repairs and maintenance, and pulling weeds.
