- Job Duties:
- Assist gin operator with repairing equipment, cleaning blockages, cleaning lint filters, refilling supplies, sweeping floors, removing trash buildup. Un-tarp modules, roll up and store module tarps, move bales from dock. Operate mote press, secure wires to mote bales. Operate cotton trash bale press, handle, and store cotton trash bales. General housekeeping and cleaning of gin, and any other duties or responsibilities as directed by the Gin Superintendent or First Line Supervisor (shift leader), i.e. but not limited to repairing module truck chains or bearings, loading module tarps for delivery. Duties include but not limited to sweeping/cleaning, helping unchoke equipment, using air to blow down and keep key pieces of equipment clean, be able to operate skid steer and tractor, raking cotton off storage yard, assisting with repairs as needed, rolling tarps, folding and baling plastic, helping load and unload cotton seed, operate simple machinery with minimal controls, take and process cotton samples. Load cotton module to feeder. This position requires knowledge of how to operate a module truck safely and effectively. The operator must be able to effectively and efficiently pick up/put down modules and be able to load them onto the module feeder in the plant without problem and in a timely manner. Handle cotton samples at press. This employee is responsible for smooth operation of the bale press, communication with ginner on bale cuts, re-strapping any broken straps, ensuring bag is properly on the bale, sealed, proper id tag applied, bale sample is properly taken and packaged, all necessary supplies kept above a minimum threshold, bale tags gathered/prepared/used in sequence, and all relevant data for that bale properly logged. Workers will use an iPad or computer to log data as necessary for daily operations. Raises and/or bonuses may be offered to any seasonal worker employed pursuant to this job order, at the company's sole discretion, based on individual factors including work performance, skill, and tenure.
Job involves stooping, lifting and working in inclement weather as well as indoor & outdoor extreme temps. Must have legal authority to work in the US. Must be able to lift & carry up to 50lbs. to shoulder height repetitively through the workday. Workers may be required to take random, post-accident, and/or upon suspicion drug test at no cost to worker, post hire. Testing positive or failure to comply may result in immediate termination from employment. Must have three months positive verifiable prior experience in job offered. No smoking or tobacco use of any kind will be permitted in the gin or warehouse. Employer reserves the right to discharge any employee found smoking or in possession of smoking materials including cigarettes, cigars, snuff, chewing tobacco, pipe tobacco, electronic cigarettes or any other smoking paraphernalia.
There are 2 shift periods at the Franklin, VA location: M-Sat 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; 6:00 p.m. - 6:00 a.m. There are 2 shift periods at the Windsor, VA location: M-Sat 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; 6:00 p.m. - 6:00 a.m. The employer will designate time for lunch and breaks. Worker may be requested to work Sunday during peak times and special needs but not required. These requirements pertain to both H-2A and US workers. Extreme heat, cold or drought may affect working hours. Employer will offer 66 hours/week, weather and crop conditions permitting. Worker will report to work at designated time and place as directed by employer each day.
