The Department of Labor recently announced new minimum wage rates, called Adverse Effect Wage Rates (AEWRs), that employers must offer and pay, at the time work is performed, to nonimmigrant H-2A workers and workers in corresponding employment beginning on the effective date of the new wage rates. Job Duties:
General Farm Workers to perform the following duties: Squash - Field worker will harvest fresh squash. Cut and pack fresh squash from field. Harvesting is done by using one's hand, a hand knife, and the use of a harvest machine. While bending at the waist, the knife is used to cut product from plant and trim the top of vegetable to prepare for packing in cartons or totes. The process is repeated, worker is responsible for the cleaning of any harvest tools and equipment. Peppers - Peppers will be handpicked while bending at the waist and using a bucket. Once full, the employee will walk out of field to dump the commodity onto a stationary packing table where other workers will sort, and pack finished product into carton or totes. There are no tools used for this product. The process is repeated. Workers are responsible for cleaning the table and their buckets. Tomatoes - Tomatoes will be freshly handpicked off a trellis system. The fruit will be handpicked and place the onto a food grade bucket while standing up right. Once full, the employee will walk out of field to dump onto stationary packing table where other workers will sort, and pack finished product into carton or totes. There are no tools used for this product. The process is repeated. Workers are responsible for cleaning the table and their buckets. Teardrops tomatoes - Teardrops will be freshly handpicked off a trellis system. The fruit will be handpicked and place the onto a food grade bucket while standing up right. Once full, the employee will walk out of field to dump onto stationary packing table where other workers will sort, and pack finished product into carton or totes. There are no tools used for this product. The process is repeated. Workers are responsible for cleaning the table and their buckets. Minimum Job Qualifications: Workers must have at least 3 month of experience in harvest or cutting experience in one or more of the harvested commodities listed in this job order. Specific requirements include lifting up to 50 pounds frequently and able to use hand tools, including cutting knives, Must be able to work under conditions where skin and clothing become heavily soiled with mud, water, grease, etc. Must be able to work outdoors in inclement weather conditions, including rain, cold, high winds, etc. Work involves frequent bending and working in bent or stooped positions. Must be able to walk and stand up extensively. No smoking, alcohol, firearms in the field or residential housing. Daily individual work assignments will be made by, and at the sole discretion of, the employer as the needs of the operation dictate.
