Job Duties:
Assist in stocking ponds; hook up feed machine, haul to ponds, cast feed along ponds; hook up probiotic tank, apply required amount to ponds; check screens at inlets/outlets of ponds, replace/repair damaged screens; brush fouling; check feed trays, report results, adjust feed rations; periodically sample shrimp & ponds to determine average weight & shrimp per pond; assist to harvest ponds & ready them for dormant season; remove screens, gate boards; do necessary repairs; put everything in storage. Clean, disinfect and prepare all tanks in the hatchery area (maturation, spawning and larviculture). Assist in loading/unloading of selected broodstock (breeder prawns) from nurseries to the maturation tanks; feed broodstock daily several times per day and maintain good water conditions of temperature and cleanliness as per instructions by the hatchery biologist. Clean tanks and area daily and retrieve and dispose of any dead animals. Assist with the spawning process by moving females to the spawning area and collecting eggs. Collect hatched early-stage shrimp (nauplii) and transfer to larviculture area. Feed shrimp larvae in larviculture area daily several times per day with algae grown on site and other feeds as per instructions by the hatchery biologist. Maintain cleanliness of the larviculture area. Maintain the algae growing area by providing fertilization as per instructions from hatchery biologist. Aid in the transfer of the final post-larval shrimp from the larviculture area to nurseries or open ponds. Clean all the tanks in maturation and larviculture, and aid in giving maintenance and putting away all the equipment for the off-season. May operate vehicles within the farm.
