Job Duties:
Workers will perform assigned duties as instructed by their supervisor and must be able to work with minimum supervision. Duties may vary from time to time. General Field Maintenance: Clear ground of rocks, sticks and roots by hand and clear brush and trees with chainsaw. Field and fence maintenance. Workers may build potato boxes in preparation for the upcoming season, check potato sheds for temperature changes, and get equipment ready for the season. Use wood to build and repair boxes for digger with the use of nail guns and hammers. Prepare ground for planting. Manually weeding fields by hand or using hand tools. Drain water from fields with hand tools and shovels when needed. Move hay, load and unload boxes on trucks and trailers. Workers may be asked to do welding and torch work when needed. May clean potato warehouse, storage building, and shop. Workers may participate in irrigation activities: set up, operate, and repair irrigation systems. Workers may be asked to operate any equipment related to planting and cultivating sweet potatoes including, but not limited to, the following: vehicles, farm equipment, drive all tractors (in the field), and implements on farm including hipper, disk, dual, chisel plow, potato trans-planter, bush hog, skid steer, forklift, water trailer to water plants. Workers may use the following tools and equipment: shovel, chainsaw, hammer, four-wheeler, tractor, high clearance sprayer, forklift, skid steer, combine, cotton picker, and potato trans-planter. Workers may do minor repairs, maintain, and clean all hand tools and mechanical equipment prior to and after use. Workers may be asked to drive farm vehicles and to transport workers to fields, housing, or grocery store. Sweet Potatoes: Covering potatoes with use of bedding machine & covering with plastic, punch holes, and removal of plastic and paper once bedding is complete. Cut slips by hand with knife and place boxes to load & unload onto trucks and trailers. Walk behind potato trans-planter and fill in slips by hand. Riding mechanical trans-planter and loading slips in planting cups. Divining plants by hand. Other Crops: Workers may also plant, cultivate, and maintain the following crops: purple hull peas, watermelons, beans, soybeans, cotton, and corn.

Special Requirements:
Applicants must be 18 years or older. Employer may conduct a criminal background check on all new applicants at the employers expense. Valid drivers license required to drive the companys vehicles. Three (3) months experience required for operating tractors, machinery, farm implements such as disk, dual, water wagon, and bush hog, hand cutting slips, and use of mechanical trans-planter. Safety training for use of farm equipment and tractors will be provided. The ability of an employee to safely operate machinery and vehicles will be left up to the discretion of management. To ensure the safety of all employees, those interested in operating machinery must be able to communicate with & adequately follow instructions given by management. Management reserves the right to restrict employees from operational duties who do not show proficiency to effectively communicate with management & may therefore place other employees safety at risk.
