Job Duties:
The Apiary Manager will beekeep alongside Drew. They will grow into the primary person responsible for monitoring, noting, planning, and caring for our 80-120 hives (seasonal variation due to selling hives in spring). Responsibilities include making splits; feeding as beneficial; monitoring for queen and hive health, observing hives, planning and implementing beneficial interventions; monitoring and treating bees for Varroa destructor; maintaining bee yards; adding and removing equipment according to the season and hive productivity; maintaining equipment by assembling and painting bee boxes; assembling/repairing frames and other equipment; driving work vehicles to bee yards, which are on employer farm property; daily, incidental upkeep to equipment and bee yards safe and operational. The Apiary Manager must be able to lift at least 75 lbs. The position includes incidental work such as, but not limited to, maintenance of equipment (including electric fencing), maintenance of passable access to apiaries. Moreover, the Apiary Manager will extract and bottling honey for sale. Drew’s Honeybees, Inc. will provide all equipment, vehicles, tools, and otherwise necessary for the successful completion of this position. The Apiary Manager must have deep experience working with honeybee husbandry and apiaries. Days and hours may vary due to weather and temperature conditions. The Apiary Manager should have an eagerness to observe and collaborate with rigorous, replicable scientific research as well. The way we keep bees and intervene in pollinator ecology is awry. Our science points the way towards a better, sustainable pollinator ecology. Lastly, the Apiary manager will be eager to experiment and implement non-standard honeybee husbandry practices toward honeybee husbandry befitting the evolutionary history of the honey bee. For all of this, the Apiary Manager must be able to communicate readily in English.

The Apiary Manager must have deep experience working with honeybee husbandry and apiaries. Days and hours may vary due to weather and temperature conditions. The Apiary Manager should have an eagerness to observe and collaborate with rigorous, replicable scientific research as well. Ability to lift 75 lbs is required. Employer agrees to provide to the worker, without charge or deposit charge, all tools, supplies, and equipment required to perform the duties assigned. Worker must be able to communicate fluently in English.
