Job Duties:

Pull weeds/chop: Workers will walk along rows as specified by employer and remove weeds and grass from fields by hand or using a hoe. Cultivate and harvest melons, broccoli, peanuts, sweet potato, flue-cured tobacco, and grain. Load and unload crops or containers of materials, manually or using conveyors, hand trucks, forklifts, or transfer augers. This job does not include work in sweet potato packing house. Repair and maintain farm vehicles, implements, and mechanical equipment. Spray fertilizer or pesticide solutions to control insects, fungus and weed growth, and diseases, using hand sprayers. Perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials. All tools, supplies, and equipment required to perform the duties assigned are provided to the worker, without charge or deposit. Must be able to lift 75 lbs. to shoulder height repetitively throughout the workday and able to lift and carry 75 lbs. in field. Job is outdoors and continues in all types of weather. Must not hinder another workers' productivity. Use of personal cell phone or other personal electronic device during working hours strictly prohibited except for work-related calls or emergencies and violation may result in immediate termination. Work is from 7:00am to 4:00pm (Monday -Friday) and from 7:00am to 1:00pm on Saturday with a one (1) hour, unpaid, lunch break. Requires one-month experience in crop activities listed. Hours may fluctuate due to weather conditions or mechanical breakdowns but will not reduce the 3/4 guarantee over the life of the contract. Housing is provided at no cost for workers who are not reasonably able to return to their residence within the same day. Once hired, workers may be required to take a random drug test (at no cost to the worker), as part of fitness for duty and workers safety. Drug testing relates to safety assurance in a working environment. Testing positive or failure to comply with the random drug testing may result in immediate termination from employment. Possibility of work breakdown will not reduce workers guarantee over the life of the contract.
