Job Duties:
Crops: Onions. Duties may include manually lifting onion sacks, manually sorting onions, forklift driving to move onions. Handpick onion, pull onion from the ground, use scissors to cut off tops and roots, place into buckets, and dump into produce bins. Assist with bagging onions to place bag tags and stack them on pallets. Keep all work zones clean and free of debris and trash, take out trash and other related onion packer activities. The worker, to undertake this type of job, must be capable of working outdoors for at least 6 hours a day in any weather condition and possess the necessary physical strength and endurance to swiftly repeat the picking process. The employer will supply the tools required to carry out the specified job tasks at no cost to the worker. This job may involve standing, walking, stooping, bending, and lifting up to 75 pounds for extended periods outdoors in any weather. It also entails making significant decisions based on size, color, and ripeness following predefined standards. Compliance with important food safety and quality standard operating procedures is necessary, along with the ability to work rapidly and consistently in collaboration with fellow workers, maintaining a positive, professional, team-oriented attitude while considering the safety and well-being of fellow workers and the consumers who will purchase and consume the fresh produce grown, harvested, packed, and shipped from the farm. Instructions will be provided for each task, and performance standards will be communicated to the worker. Workers will be allocated a row or series of rows and tasked with selecting and harvesting produce based on outlined criteria demonstrated by managers. They will be responsible for grading and discarding poor-quality, rotting, and/or overly ripe produce in the field. Workers will delicately load good-quality produce into canvas sacks, and then drop it to bins , taking care to prevent damage or bruising. They may also be responsible for clearing trash and conducting similar farm sanitation tasks as part of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Standard Sanitation Operating Procedures (SSOPs) within Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs) and Good Handling Practices (GHPs) for Food Safety. Workers will perform general field duties to include but not limited to irrigation (will be in charge of checking the irrigation system and irrigation schedule), laying plastic, putting and pulling tape out, cleaning ditches, fixing fences, fixing leaks, weeding onion, general farm cleaning (picking trash from fields and roads) Load and unload onions. Grade and sort onions. Bag and package onions by hand. Stack packaged onions onto pallets. Shrink wrap pallet. Throw out any rotting crop. Operate farm equipment/vehicles. Variable weather/crop conditions may apply; hours may fluctuate (+/-), with possible downtime and/or extended hours.

Work is to be done for long periods of time in the field, when plants may be wet with dew and rain, and may be required during light rain, snow, moderate winds, direct sun, high humidity and extreme temperatures. Allergies to ragweed, goldenrod, insect spray, related chemicals, etc. may affect workers ability to perform the job. Workers must be able to perform the required work with or without reasonable accommodations.
