- Job Duties:
- Mix specified materials or chemicals, and dump solutions, powders, or seeds into planter or sprayer machinery; Spray fertilizer or pesticide solutions to control insects, fungus and weed growth, and diseases; Observe and listen to machinery operation to detect equipment malfunctions; Manipulate controls to set, activate, and adjust mechanisms on machinery for cultivating, planting, spraying, watering, harvesting, moving, storing crops; Operate or tend large, high horsepower farm equipment (much of which is equipped with John Deere GPS) used in agricultural production such as tractor, combine, sprayer, planter, grain cart, tillage tool, mower to produce crops such as hay, wheat, soybeans, corn, cotton; Adjust farm machinery and notify supervisors when machinery malfunctions; Attach farm implements such as plows, discs, planters, harvesters to tractors using bolts and hand tools; Operate towed machines such as seed drills or spreaders to plant, fertilize, dust, and spray crops; Irrigate soil using pipes, pivot, or ditch systems and maintain systems; Mend fences, farm buildings, and other structures, and mow fields; Attend to live farm animal including cattle by checking heifers three times daily as they calve, treating calves with iodine; Tag, tattoo, weigh, and record results; Deworm, vaccinate, feed, brand replacement heifers; Test semen; Put cows out to graze, place bulls with replacement heifers; Assess crop maturity and field conditions.
