Job Duties:

Crops/Commodities: corn, alfalfa, fertilizer. Drive semi tractor-trailer truck to/from delivery or pickup destinations. Regularly climb into and out of trucks and trailers. Check vehicles to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order. Inspect loads to ensure that cargo is secure. Secure cargo for transport using ropes, blocks, chains, binders, or covers. Check all load-related documentation for completeness and accuracy. Maneuver trucks into and out of loading and unloading positions. Load-unload trailers and cargo. Handle equipment and cargo carefully to prevent damage. Complete pre-trip and post-trip inspection and paperwork on trucks and trailers. Clean/maintain lights, windows, and mirrors, and vehicle exterior. Add engine oil and fuel as needed. Perform preventative maintenance. Must be able to drive in rain, snow, and other hazardous conditions as needed. Drive in both on-road (paved) and off-road conditions. May drive other vehicle types. Use GPS and/or maps to navigate to destinations. Read/comprehend traffic signage and directions. Load and unload agricultural products or crops onto trucks, drive trucks to haul crops, supplies, tools, and/or equipment/supplies to other Riedstra Dairy farm locations, Riedstra Dairy storage facilities, or Riedstra Dairy packing house on private or public roads. Drive 6 wheel (Straight truck under 26K lb.) 8 wheel (straight truck over 26K lbs) or 18-wheel truck(s) (Over 26k lbs.) with Farm Use tags. This is a transfer/shuttle of product from Riedstra Dairy to Riedstra Dairy farm/packing house so that the agricultural crops may be sorted and/or grouped for sale. Does not deliver to customers. Workers must operate all equipment properly and in a manner that protects operator, others, the employer's products and property. Failure to comply with safety requirements and operating instructions may result in disciplinary action up to and including immediate termination. Employer-paid post-hire drug testing is required after a worker has an accident at work. Clean driving record required. Must have or be able to obtain driver's license within 30 days following hire. Workers with appropriate licenses and a clean driving record (no major moving violations such as but not limited to Driving While Intoxicated or Reckless Driving) and able to obtain an insurable driver's license may drive company vehicles. Workers with appropriate licenses may transport other workers to-and-from Riedstra Dairy provided housing directly to worksites each day and transporting workers around Riedstra Dairy during the workday and possibly carrying equipment/supplies and this may involve the worker(s) operating the vehicles across public roads in order to reach the other farm properties to perform their work. Workers are driving multi-purpose vehicles that have a capacity of less than 13 tons, require a standard driver’s license to operate, may be used on or off farm by the workers (e.g., drive to the grocery store, bank, etc. at their discretion). Workers are not required or expected to arrange for the routine pick-up of another worker or groups of workers on a regular schedule at other housing locations or centralized pick-up points. Applicants must be able to furnish verbal or written statement establishing relevant prior work experience. Special Requirements:

This job requires a minimum of 6 months of prior experience driving/servicing the combination of a tractor unit and semi-trailer, or a 3-axle or greater straight chassis tractor with a GVWR rating of greater than 26,001 lbs. with a cargo carrying box. Workers must be able to perform all duties with accuracy and efficiency. Saturday work required. Must be able to lift/carry 60 lbs. Employer-paid post-hire drug testing required. Must have or be able to obtain drivers license within 30 days following hire. Workers with appropriate licenses and a valid doctor's certificate may be asked to drive other workers.
