Job Duties:

Agricultural products: AVOCADOS Avocado picking and care: Harvest Avocados using 12-28 ft ladders and 9-14 ft picking poles (depending on the property). Using hand clippers, clip branches and stems of avocado trees and place some avocados in picking bag. Pick up loose avocados off the ground and place in picking bags. Carry bags to bins located on roads. The avocado season is from June through August/September, depending on the amount of fruit and weather. The pruning will be done with either hand clippers or with an extension pole with a clipper on the end. Pruning will be done in both a standing and stooped/kneeling/squatted position. Pruning tasks are intermittent and will not exceed more than 20% of the workers’ scheduled hours. TBO assures that it will abide by rest period requirements in accordance with 8 Cal. Code Regulations 3456(c)(4). Employer assures it will provide gloves, any tools needed, and training in prevention of work-related injuries, at no cost to workers. General Farm Work: Grove Maintenance (Pruning/fertilizing/land clearing): Field workers will also do grove maintenance including pruning, fertilizing, and weeding. Weeding will be done with either a long-handled hoe (4 feet or longer) or shovel. The workers will be in a standing position. Other activities as needed: • Set up and operate irrigation equipment. • Operate tractors and ranch truck to plant, cultivate, spray and harvest crops. • Clean work areas, and maintain grounds and landscaping. • Maintain and repair irrigation and climate control systems. • Dig, cut, and transplant seedlings, cuttings, trees, and shrubs. • Dig, rake, and screen soil, in preparation for planting. • Trap and destroy pests, such as moles, gophers, and mice, using traps. • Move containerized shrubs, plants, and trees, using wheelbarrows or tractors. • Haul and spread topsoil and other materials to condition soil, using wheelbarrows or carts and shovels. • Repair farm buildings, fences, and other structures. • Plant, spray, weed, fertilize, water, and prune plants, shrubs, and trees, using gardening tools.

Special Requirements:

No experience harvesting avocado is required. Specific requirements include lifting up to 90 pounds frequently and being able to use hand tools, including cutting knives. Must be able to use hand clippers and work on high ladders as needed. Must be able to carry ladders and cannot be afraid of heights . Must be able to work under conditions where skin and clothing may become heavily soiled. Must be able to work outdoors in inclement weather conditions, including rain, cold, high winds, etc. No smoking, alcohol, firearms in the field or residential housing. Work is performed in open fields and may involve exposure to mud, dust, wind, heat, cold, and other natural elements. Temperatures can range from 30 degrees Fahrenheit to over 100 degrees Fahrenheit during the period of employment. Workers should come prepared with appropriate clothing and footwear for the environmental and working conditions described. See addendum C
