Job Description

Full Time:
Yes
Number of Workers Requested:
65
Job Duties:
Workers will plant, harvest, and care for hundreds of oyster seeds in specially-made cages at our leased water parcels and repair damaged cages caused by aquatic predators that kill and eat our harvest. Workers will monitor oysters' growth rate, detect signs of discoloration or illness, and treat the harvest to ensure they are healthy and thriving within their natural habitat (water). Workers will flip all cages located on water parcels on a bi-weekly basis for rapid growth to avoid binding; they will also be required to move the oysters into larger compartments within their cages as they grow until the oysters reach commercial size ("3"). Once oysters reach commercial size ("3"), cages are brought to shore for workers to open the cages and remove these oysters from the cage, hose the oysters down to clean the outer shell, removing algae, slim residues, or debris, such as seaweed, sand or any non-toxic growths on the oysters' shell. Oysters are placed in wet sacks, delivered to a processing plant, and processed according to the manufacturer and consumers' requests. WORKERS WILL NOT OPEN SHELLS. Housing, transportation, tools, and materials will be provided to all workers at no cost. The employer will also transport workers to Walmart every Saturday to purchase groceries and personal items at no cost to workers.
