Job Duties:
Farm Equipment Operation During Field Operations: Workers will be required to operate tractors, vehicles, forklifts, and other farm equipment in the production of crops and crop spraying. Before any worker is required to operate any farm equipment, the worker will be instructed in the proper and safe operation of tractor. Workers must notify supervisor of any mechanical issues. Workers will be required to operate tractors according to instructions and in a manner, that protects the operator, other workers, trees, crops and equipment. Repeated failure to obey operating and safety instructions may result in termination. Vehicles: Properly licensed and experienced workers may drive trucks, vans, or buses on public roadways. Before any worker is permitted to driver or operate a vehicle, the employer will ensure they have the proper license and experience for that vehicle. Workers will operate employers farm vehicles to transport fellow crew members, crops and tools. Workers must possess the physical strength and endurance (ability to continue or last) to repeat the harvest process though out the workday, working quickly and skillfully to perform activities assigned during that activity. Workers may not leave trash, or other discarded items in work areas or vehicles but must dispose of such items in provided receptacles. Workers must wash hands with soap and water after all bathroom and meal breaks. Allergies to varieties of ragweed, goldenrod, insecticides, related agricultural chemicals, etc., may affect worker’s ability to perform the work described herein. Sanitation Requirements: For food and general personal safety purposes, all workers will be required and expected to follow common sanitary practices at all times. This is particularly critical when hand harvesting crops for human consumption. Employees are required to cleanse their hands by washing them thoroughly with soap and water after using the bathroom and before entering the fields for harvest activities or the packing facility for packing operations. Crops: Tomatoes, Cucumbers, Squash, Bell Pepper, Eggplant, Watermelon (big and mini), Asparagus, Green Beans, Cantaloupe, Honeydew, Sweet Corn, Pumpkin, Zucchini, peaches, blackberries, okra, brassica crops, peppers, flowers, strawberries. Harvesting Standard: When harvesting products, workers must fully fill the picking container. Workers must not bruise products. Peach Tree Harvest and Maintenance: Workers will help with pruning, thinning, and harvesting peach trees. Spraying chemicals, disposing of old trees and debris will also be part of workers responsibilities. Workers will pick peaches as instructed by the supervisor. All equipment necessary to do the tasks at hand will be provided to workers at no cost. Maintenance: qualified workers will be required to perform routine maintenance and repairs of farm equipment. Workers will examine and listen to machines, motors, engines as well as other equipment for operational defects. Workers will dismantle defective units and repair or replace defective parts using hand-tools and shop tools. Workers will reassemble, adjust and lubricate machines and equipment to ensure efficient operation. Workers may install and repair wiring and motors to maintain electrical systems. Workers may assemble and erect new farm machinery and equipment as well as test drive vehicles and or equipment to ensure that they run smoothly. Workers will hand transplant, stake, harvest and pack crops according to their supervisors’ instructions. Workers will lay and pull plastic according to their supervisors instructions. Melon Acres will have workers help supervisor’s greenhouse maintenance. Workers will help with seeding crops into trays that will be grown for transplants. Workers will be standing for this task. Workers will help with various greenhouses jobs like watering plants, getting plants ready to take out to field loading them in a neat manner.

Special Requirements:
Must have three months experience operating 50+ HP Farm Equipment. Applicants must be able to furnish affirmative job references from recent employers operating comparable operations establishing acceptable previous experience. Must be physically able to meet and perform all job specifications stated in job order. Must be able to work in the hot humid weather for extended periods of time. Workers are subject to random drug testing post-hire at no cost to the employee. Failing or refusing a drug test will result in immediate termination.
