- Job Duties:
- Workers will perform assigned duties as instructed by the supervisor. Minimum of 3 months experience
required. Duties may vary from time to time. Work is performed on the farm, butchering/slaughtering of
a live animal. Workers are responsible for live kills, including shooting/stunning, cutting, removing the
animal’s head, hide, and legs. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to cutting and skinning
the animal and presenting it for further processing in a clean manner. Must be able to process and
prepare a variety of meats from all hoofed animals with knowledge of the carcass and how to properly
break it down. Must have knowledge and skills to sharpen butcher knives. Must maintain all equipment,
including knives, saws, grinders, and work area. The employer will furnish, without cost, all tools,
supplies, or equipment required in the performance of work. Crews will be responsible for vehicles,
tools, and equipment assigned to them. Deductions will be taken for lost tools, misuse causing damage,
and destruction of tools and equipment. Vehicles must be kept clean and deductions will be made for
necessary cleaning, damage due to misuse, and reckless operations. Must be able to lift a minimum of
75 lbs. Knowledge of animal safe handling, including humane slaughtering procedures. Knowledge of
basic animal safety rules and how to handle oneself among live animals; experience preferred.
Knowledge of farm life, including farm animals and machinery performed on the farm. Work requires
repetitive movements, and the majority of time is spent on ones feet. Workers will perform assigned
duties as instructed by the supervisor. Must be able to obtain a driver's license within 30-90 days of hire.
Employees are required to perform any of the following tasks to attend to livestock: order feed, retrieve
feed from storage, prepare feed and mix in additives, deliver feed to livestock facilities, give feed to
livestock, check feed equipment, clean and maintain feed equipment, place mineral blocks, inspect
water sources and watering equipment, break, melt, remove ice from water, clean, maintain, repair
water systems, transport water to livestock when necessary, inspect livestock for illnesses and injuries,
identify and quarantine any sick livestock from the herd, monitor livestock temperatures, brand
livestock, castrate livestock, weigh livestock, spray livestock with insecticide, remove and dispose of any
dead livestock. Receive new livestock, vaccinate/treat new livestock, brand new livestock, clean the
receiving area, maintain livestock equipment. transport cattle to pastures, maintain fencing for
livestock. Workers will prepare livestock for market or slaughter. The employer will furnish, without
cost, all tools, supplies, or equipment required in the performance of work. Workers should be able to
do the work required with or without reasonable accommodations. Work is performed primarily
outdoors and involves exposure to sun, wind, rain, soil, mud, dust, heat, snow, cold and other natural
elements. Worker must be able to withstand working in the direct sunlight and extreme weather
conditions especially snow and freezing temperatures while performing their required job duties. Hours
and days of work may vary due to weather conditions. Proper work attire is required. No personal cell
phone usage on the job. Cell phone use should be limited to contact with the supervisor and other
employees as necessary to perform job duties.
