Job Duties:

Duties will vary by season. Spring work includes field soil preparation, set up of irrigation systems which include laying down plastic pipe, filters, drip lines, and also cleaning of irrigation ditches, laying down plastic mulch for crop production etc.. Spring work also includes plant care in greenhouses. Such as growing seedlings in trays. Filling soil trays and containers with media, transplanting seedlings to bigger containers and placing on the ground or on racks. Watering plants in greenhouses by hose, weeding by hand around structures, moving plants from one growing area to another as the crop requires. Summer work includes field planting of both seeds, and seedlings from the greenhouse by and with machinery. Weeding crops with hand tools, irrigating crops and managing the various water schedules for different plots of land. Using backpack pump sprayers to control weeds in various spots around the farm. Harvest begins late summer and includes hand picking the various crops such as Tomatoes, Peppers, Corn, Watermelon, Cantaloupe, Pumpkins, Squash, cucumbers, placing items in containers and loading onto trucks. Delivering and unloading produce at farm markets and other local delivery points. Fall clean up following the harvest includes pulling and moving irrigation lines for storage, pulling up plastic mulch and discarding in dumpsters. Storing supplies and equipment for the winter.
