- We need seasonal employees to assist with our corn, wheat, oats, sorghum, rye, millet, soybeans, sunflower and cattle operation. Our season runs from March until December. We need seasonal assistance starting in Mach with our Calving season. Our cattle are confined for calving and during that time they need to be cared for and fed. Calving runs until the end of May or early June. After our calving season is done, the cattle are sent to pastures where they remain until the next year. No feeding or care would be needed while in pastures. At which time upon completion we move to animal care, pasture rotation, and yard clean out and manure hauling to stock piled locations.
Starting in April, employees will need to assist with planting and seeding. Before cattle are released to pastures, employees will need to reconstruct barb wire fences, replace old fences and install wooden posts to prepare camps for cattle. During the summer employees will need to seed the wheat for planting. In the fall, the calves are sold as feeder calves.
Job duties will include: prepare fields for planting, attach farm implements such as plows, discs, sprayers, or harvesters to tractors, using bolts and hand tools, operate tractors, planters, sprayers, seed drills, manure spreaders, operate other farm equipment, engage in planting, weeding, spraying and/or harvesting activities, fertilize, dust, and spray crops, spray fertilizer or pesticide solutions to control insects, fungus and weed growth, and diseases, using hand sprayers, load and unload crops or materials, manually or using conveyors, handtrucks, forklifts, or transfer augers, load hoppers, containers, or conveyors to feed machines with products, using forklifts, transfer augers, suction gates, shovels, or pitchforks, observe and listen to machinery operation to detect equipment malfunctions, attach equipment extensions or accessories, load crops and unload crops, operate equipment to harvest crops, record agricultural data, drive trucks to haul crops, supplies, and tools drive trucks, tractors, and other equipment to distribute feed to animals, examine animals to detect illness, injury, or disease, and to check physical characteristics, such as rate of weight gain, feed and water livestock and monitor food and water supplies, herd livestock to pastures for grazing or to scales, trucks, or other enclosures, inspect, maintain, and repair equipment, machinery, buildings, pens, yards, and fences, maintain growth, feeding, production, and cost records, mark livestock to identify ownership and grade, using brands, tags, paint, or tattoos, mix feed, additives, and medicines in prescribed portions, move equipment, poultry, or livestock from one location to another, manually or using trucks or carts, patrol grazing lands on horseback or using all-terrain vehicles, provide medical treatment, such as administering medications and vaccinations, or arrange for veterinarians to provide more provide more extensive treatment, segregate animals according to weight, age, color, and physical condition, shift animals between grazing areas to ensure that they have sufficient access to food, care for animals, clean equipment or facilities, examine animals to detect illness, injury or other problems, maintain inventories of materials, equipment, or products, maintain operational records, operate farming equipment, perform animal breeding procedures, transport animals, crops, or equipment, treat animal injuries or illnesses.
