Job Duties:
Workers will perform assigned duties as instructed by their supervisor. Duties may vary from time to time. Sod/Turfgrass Planting: field laborers will operate tractor to plant sprigs to fields. Laborers will operate tractor with pull behind mowers. Tree and weed removal, picking up scrap sod from fields, with the following hand tools: Pitchforks, shovels, rakes, string trimmer, and machetes. Sod/Turfgrass Harvesting: Assisting the Sod Harvesting Manager with performing a second level of quality control. Sod/Turfgrass Rolling: Sod must be rolled before is harvested. To roll the sod, Farm laborers operate a tractor at a speed of about 3 mph, while pulling a roller. Sod/Turfgrass Stacking: Hand stacking sod on back of the tractor. On days when we have large orders or the mechanical sod stacker breaks down, manual sod stackers are used. Taking little roll sod from a harvesting machine and manually stacking them on a pallet. Sod/Turfgrass Loading by hand: Most sod is harvested by machine and stacked on a pallet in the field. Customers come out to the field and farm laborers take 2 by 5 little roll sod off the pallet and stack it on or in the customers vehicle. Little rolls of sod weigh about 30-40 pounds each. Must be able to transfer 50 little rolls of sod by hand, from a pallet held up load by a forklift to customers vehicles. Forklift operation: Using forklift to load empty pallets on the sod stacking machine, staging full pallets from the stacking line and loading little roll sod by hand on customers vehicles. Collecting harvested 2.5 by 80 big rolls, staging them for truck loading, and then load big rolls on the delivery trucks. Minor mechanical work associated with all jobs. Safety training for use of farm equipment and tractors will be provided. The ability of an employee to safely operate machinery will be left to the discretion of management. To ensure the safety of all employees, those interested in operating machinery must be able to communicate with and adequately follow instructions given by management. Management reserves the right to restrict employees from operational duties who do not show proficiency to effectively communicate with management and may therefore place other employees’ safety in risk. Workers may transport workers to/from the housing to worksite and to the grocery store each week.

Special Requirements:
Must be 18 years or older. If driving farm vehicles, a valid driver's license is required. 3 months experience in Planting, harvesting Sod/Turfgrass and operating tractors. The company may conduct background checks, at the employers expense. The majority of the workday is spent on ones feet. Workers may stand in one place for any period of time. Due to nature of business and equipment used, repetitive movements such as pushing, pulling, sitting, walking, stooping and bending. Workers must be able to climb, stand, sit, stoop, squat, kneel, crouch, bend (from the waist), push, pull, reach and lift up to 40 lbs. Workers will have to be able and fit to perform the duties of Sod/Turfgrass Farm. Workers may be offered more than the standard hours of work in a single workday. Workers may volunteer to work additional hours when work is available. Hours of work may increase/decrease depending on crop yield and or weather and can occur at any time throughout the season.
