- Job Duties:
- We operate a cow-calf operation. Cattle are bred for a defined calving season and only calve in a certain time window. The workload associated with calving is greater than our operation can handle with available labor. Cow-calf pairs are then needed to be transported to pastures in summer during grazing season. There is a shortage in labor over those months to help move cattle to grass, maintain the fences and stock tanks while cattle are grazing. There is also a need to gather forage for the winter months when the cattle are no longer able to graze. This happens during the summer when forages are at peak growth. There is a short time window available to harvest forage at optimum nutrition values this time of year with a lack of available labor. We do not need any assistance during the off season from mid-February until mid-April. Job duties will include: operate tractors, planters, manure spreaders, operate other farm equipment, fertilize, dust, and spray crops, spray fertilizer or pesticide solutions to control insects, fungus and weed growth, and diseases, using hand sprayers, load and unload crops or materials, manually or using conveyors, forklifts, or transfer augers, load hoppers, containers, or conveyors to feed machines with products, using forklifts, transfer augers, suction gates, shovels, or pitchforks, manipulate controls to set, activate, and adjust mechanisms on machinery, observe and listen to machinery operation to detect equipment malfunctions, attach equipment extensions or accessories, load crops and unload crops, operate equipment to harvest crops, drive pickup trucks to haul crops, supplies, and tools, inspect, adjust, and complete routine maintenance and repairs on equipment drive trucks, tractors, and other equipment to distribute feed to animals, examine animals to detect illness, injury, or disease, and to check physical characteristics, such as rate of weight gain, feed and water livestock and monitor food and water supplies, herd livestock to pastures for grazing or to scales, trucks, or other enclosures, inspect, maintain, and repair equipment, machinery, buildings, pens, yards, and fences, mark livestock to identify ownership and grade, using brands, tags, paint, or tattoos, mix feed, additives, and medicines in prescribed portions, shift animals between grazing areas to ensure that they have sufficient access to food, trim and shear poultry beaks, toes, and wings using debeaking machines, heated hand shears, or hot wires, care for animals, clean equipment or facilities, operate farming equipment, transport animals, crops, or equipment.
