- Job Duties:
- TREE PLANTING: Worker will unbundle trees and at all times handled with care as not to break and damage young trees. Worker will plant trees mechanically with a planter and by hand. Worker will ride the mechanical planting machine and place plants in holes as the machine moves along the row. Worker will adjust tree graft union height by pulling the tree until it is at specified height determined by specially marked measurement stick. Worker will straighten tree and compact soil around tree. Pay will be hourly.
TRELLIS SYSTEM CONSTRUCTION/INSTALL: Worker will construct and install trellis system. Worker will place anchor post, end angle post and of inline post using equipment including excavator, loader with auger, and loader with anchor attachment. Worker will use hand tools such as shovel or posthole digger. Posts must be re-aligned after placement with shovel, posthole digger, and level. Worker will drill post to install wire and then install tree support which may be performed by motorized platform or up to an 8? ladder. Worker will be required to lift up to 60 pounds. Pay will be hourly.
ATTACHING, TYING & SPREADING TREES: Worker will attach, train and position trees to the trellis system by clipping, tying or spreading limbs and shoots to wire from ground or up to 8? ladder or from motorized platform. Pay will be hourly.
IRRIGATION INSTALLATION & MAINTENANCE: Worker will install and maintain irrigation lines, headers, mainline, valves, micro sprinklers, and any other irrigation equipment. Workers will be required to fix leaks as directed by supervisor. Pay will be hourly.
ORCHARD MAINTENANCE: Worker will care for young non-producing fruit trees by weeding, hoeing, trunk painting, hand fertilizing, and growth selection by hand and clipping. Worker may remove brush by hand. Worker will maintain pre-set grafting throughout season. Worker will use ladder or mechanical platform up to [x] feet to hand apply pheromone lures in orchard. .Worker will complete farm clean up tasks that include picking up rocks, roots, brush, old string, wire from trellis orchard blocks and any other garbage as instructed by supervisor. Pay will be hourly.
LAWN MAINTENANCE: Worker will assist in raking leaves, picking up debris and pulling weeds in farmstead and storage areas. Pay will be hourly.
GENERAL REPAIRS AND MAINTENANCE: Worker will perform as needed general repairs and maintenance of equipment used for the orchard or facility. Pay will be hourly.
HAND THINNING: Thinning is a manual process used to control the size and quality of grown fruit. Worker must possess ability to pick up and handle up to 18 foot orchard ladder weighing 40 pounds. Worker will remove smallest fruit blossom, bud and/or identifiable fruit from within fruit cluster. Worker will identify and remove misshapen, damaged and/or other not quality fruit as directed by Employer. Thinning will be done from the ground or safely using ladder up to 18 feet. Pay will be hourly.
PRUNING: Worker will be assigned rows of trees and will prune each tree according to the predetermined standard set by supervisor. The supervisor will set, demonstrate, and communicate to workers a standard or pattern for each orchard. Worker will utilize tools such as saw, pruners and hand snips. Worker must return tools to Employer at the end of pruning task. Pruning may be done from ground or ladder up to 18 feet. Worker will remove materials from trees that resulted from pruning. When pruning is complete on each tree, worker is required to rake and scatter the resulting brush in the center of the tractor/equipment middles. Pay will be hourly.
