Job Duties:

Shuttle Driver + Fieldworker. Drive a bus over the road to transport farm workers on a planned or scheduled basis as directed by the employer or supervisor. Driver may pick up workers from different housing sites or pick up points and take them to assigned work site, transit between work sites, and return workers back to the housing site or pick up point at the end of the work day. Drive themselves and other farmworkers off the farm and over the road from place to place, such as to the grocery store, bank, government agencies, medical or dental offices and so forth. May operate truck to transport crops produced on the farm (in its unmanufactured state) to storage or to market or to a carrier for transportation to market. Direct and monitor the work of casual and seasonal help during planting and harvesting. Must abide by precise instructions and strict but necessary safety rules and policies. Inspect vehicles and check gas, oil, and water levels prior to departure. Maintain cleanliness of bus. Handle passenger emergencies or disruptions. Make minor repairs to vehicle and change tires. Employer assures that driver will be paid the offered wage rate for actual driving time, including but not limited to trips to fuel vehicle and time spent maintaining the vehicle. Fieldworker. Prepare soil for planting, plant, transplant, cultivate and harvest crops. Load and unload crops and farm materials. Transplant, top and sucker, and hand-harvest or machine harvest flue-cured tobacco. Transplant, cultivate and hand harvest sweet potato. Shovel peanuts. Workers will walk along rows as specified by employer and remove weeds and grass from fields by hand or using a hoe. May operate and perform minor maintenance and repairs on farm vehicles, implements and equipment. May repair fences, greenhouses, farm buildings and other structures, or perform irrigation activities. Perform farm, field and shed sanitation duties. Mow grass and operate trimmer around farm buildings.

Special Requirements:

Prolonged walking, standing, bending, stooping, and reaching. Job is outdoors and continues in all types of weather. Workers may be requested to submit to random drug or alcohol tests at no cost to the worker. Failure to comply with the request or testing positive may result in immediate termination. All testing will occur post-hire and is not a part of the interview process. Negative result may be required post-hire and before commencing work. Must be able to lift 75 lbs. to shoulder height repetitively throughout the workday and able to lift and carry 75 lbs. in field. Must not hinder another workers productivity. Use of personal cell phone or other personal electronic device during working hours strictly prohibited except for work-related calls or emergencies and violation may result in immediate termination. Use of cell phone or other personal electronic device while driving strictly prohibited by law and violation will result in immediate termination. Continued.

Sweet potato, hand-harvest, per 5/8 bu. bucket or equivalent. Estimated hourly wage rate equivalent is $16 based on average 32 piece rate units per hour. Actual piece rate earnings depend on individual factors. Guaranteed $15.81/hr.
