Job Duties:
Performs a variety of manual and mechanized tasks associated with the grain, oilseed, hay, and pecan production including planting, cultivating and harvesting of crops. Install and remove levee gates, assist with irrigation, clean bins and around barns. Upon occasion workers may be required to dig ditches and install water lines to sheds, barns, stock tanks and other structures on the farm. Soil preparation, operating tillage equipment, cutting equipment. Hauling bales to storage barns / farms that purchase hay. Planting, Cultivating, & Harvesting Row. Duties to include, but not limited to: Workers may drive and operate farm machinery to plant, cultivate, harvest and store crops. Attach farm implements such as plow, disc, and drill to tractor and drive tractor in field to till soil and plant / cultivate crop. Install and remove levee gates, assist with irrigation, clean bins and around barns. Upon occasion workers may be required to dig ditches and install water lines to sheds, barns, stock tanks and other structures on the farm. Use hand tools including, but not limited to: shovels, hoes and knives. Perform variety of other duties such as lubricating and repairing farm machinery and unloading product onto conveyors to storage bins and elevators. Grade, size, and sort product according to color, shape, size, appearance, feel, and/or quality, in accordance with supervisor's instructions and employer standards. Assist in set-up of product for sale of crop. Worker may be required to work in fields when crops are wet with dew / rain and should have suitable clothing for conditions which include light rain and temperatures ranging from 10 degrees to more than 100 degrees. Workers should be able to stand, bend, stoop and work for prolonged periods of time and be physically fit to perform duties as assigned. Hand thin to control the size and quality of pecans. Must accurately identify and remove misshapen, damaged or otherwise unmarketable crop. Hand prune based on variety. Use manual and mechanized pruning tools and equipment. Identify and remove stubs or broken branches, downward-growing branches, branches rubbing against each other, shaded interior branches, dead wood and shoots-suckers. Workers may be asked to assist with cattle duties, including feeding/basic care, and processing/preparing for shipment. Clean/sanitize work station and equipment. Operate equipment safely, with or without direction. Must follow quality control standards and production procedures. General farm maintenance and other duties as required in the farming operation maintenance. Includes, but not limited to, preparing barns, draining fields, preparing land for planting, maintenance of tools & equipment. Also includes fixing, clearing, and painting of fences / barns. Workers should be able to stand, bend, stoop and work for prolonged periods of time and be physically able to perform duties with reasonable accomodation.
