Job Duties:
Plant, cultivate, harvest, grade and pack fruit and vegetables including peppers, cucumbers, eggplant, squash, zucchini, tomato, cabbage, green beans, corn, watermelon, peas, butter beans, okra, broccoli, lettuce, turnip greens, mustard greens, collard greens, blackberries, blueberries, strawberries, onion, sweet potatoes, cantaloupe, and oranges. Workers will direct and monitor the activities of work crews engaged in agricultural activities. Workers will operate agricultural equipment to plow, harrow, and fertilize soil, or to plant, cultivate, spray and harvest crops. Attach farm implements such as plows, discs, sprayers, or harvesters to tractors, using bolts and hand tools. Mix specified materials and chemicals, and dump solutions, powders, or seeds into planter or sprayer machinery. Load agricultural products into trucks or onto trailers and drive to farms or storage facilities. Workers will spray fertilizer or pesticide solutions to control insects, fungus and weed growth, and diseases, using hand sprayers. Workers will observe and listen to machinery operation to detect equipment malfunctions. Adjust, repair, maintain, and service farm machinery, farm vehicles, implements, and mechanical equipment and notify supervisors when machinery malfunctions. Manipulate controls to set, activate, and adjust mechanisms on machinery. Workers will use hand tools such as shovels, trowels, hoes, tampers, pruning hooks, shears, clippers, and knives. Repair, farm buildings, fences, and other structures. Workers will walk beside or ride on machines required in plasticulture. Install and remove items including but not limited to, plastic and items used for irrigation. Walk behind the farm equipment making sure all holes are filled and covered. Workers will walk beside or ride on planting machines while inserting plants in planter mechanisms at specified intervals. Walk behind tractor pulling trailer with plants, place plant in either a pre-dug hole or use hand to make a hole, and cover with dirt using a shovel or by hand. Dig, cut, and transplant seedlings. Workers will set up and operate irrigation equipment. Maintain and repair irrigation and climate control systems. Irrigate soil, using portable pipes or ditch systems, and maintain ditches or pipes and pumps. Workers will install and remove stakes, wire, netting, fencing, and/or string. Pull weeds, prune crops, and maintain fields. String peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes and eggplant. Workers will harvest developed peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, green beans, okra, corn, cabbage, eggplants, peas, butter beans, and sweet potatoes from plants on assigned row by hand, or using a knife/clipper, and place into bucket, making sure that plant is picked clean of all crops of correct size and maturity (at least 90%) or as instructed by supervisor. When bucket is full, according to supervisor's instructions, carry to dumper on truck or trailer that is moving through the field, being careful not to damage product. Dumper will empty produce from bucket and harvester will take empty bucket to begin the process. Hand pick developed peppers, tomatoes, green beans, corn, eggplant, and cabbage on assigned row and place into box, making sure that plant is picked clean of all crops of correct size and maturity (at least 90%) or as instructed by supervisor. Lift and carry box to trailer that is moving alongside workers in field. Hand pick developed squash, pepper, tomatoes, green beans, corn, and cabbage on assigned row and place onto conveyor system that is moving through the field alongside workers while making sure to keep up, making sure that plant is picked clean of all crops of correct size and maturity (at least 90%) or as instructed by supervisor. Product will be packed in a box from the conveyor system to the proper specifications instructed by the supervisors. Boxes will then be stacked onto a trailer that is being pulled alongside workers in the field.

Special Requirements:
One month experience in grading and packing vegetables required. Perform repetitive hand movements. Bend, stoop, walk, push/pull, sit, reach, lift and carry 50 lbs. over the shoulder repeatedly for long periods of time. Stand for prolonged periods of time. Physical stamina is required. Work in extremely hot (up to 100 degrees), humid, cold, or wet weather. Employer is a drug free workplace. Random and post accident drug testing is conducted post-hire at the employer's expense and is not part of the interview process.
