Job Duties:

This job requires at least 3 months experience working on a vegetable farm. Workers must efficiently complete manual and mechanized tasks like planting, caring for, and harvesting over 40 various and diverse vegetable crops. Field work will include: planting seeds and transplants, spreading ground covering and fertilizer, weeding by hand and/or with tools, staking and tying plants, harvesting crops by picking, cutting, lifting, pulling or bunching crops. Work includes installing temporary irrigation systems and water lines. Workers will mow, cut, weed and remove rocks from fields, and perform ditching, shoveling, hoeing, hauling, ground preparation, and other manual tasks. Use of hand tools includes, but is not limited to, knives, hoes, shovels, shears, drills and saws. Bending, stooping and kneeling for long periods of time is required. Workers will handle product weighing up to 50 pounds and lift to a height of 5 feet. Work requires repetitive movements, brisk walking, extensive standing and squatting. Work is required during all weather conditions and temperatures. Workers with seasonal or environmental allergies must do the work required with or without reasonable accommodations. Workers will operate power equipment including, but not limited to, tractors, planters, mowers, plows, sprayers, spreaders and cultivators. Workers must operate agricultural equipment safely, with or without direction. Employer will instruct workers in the safety and operation of equipment before use. Workers must operate equipment in a manner that protects operator, visitors, other workers, products, crops and equipment. Failure to comply may result in termination. Packing shed work will include washing and packing farm products for storage/delivery, cleaning harvest and delivery bins, unloading and loading walk-in coolers, freezers and delivery trucks. Supervisors will provide instructions and directions to workers. Workers must be able to comprehend and follow instructions, communicate effectively and work without supervision. Workers must obey and understand all posted and verbal safety rules and basic instructions. To protect the integrity of crops, no tobacco use will be allowed during work hours. Applicants must be available for the entire period requested by the employer. Applicants must be able to furnish a verbal or written statement establishing relevant prior work experience. All workers are subject to a trial period of five days during which the employer will evaluate workers’ performance of required tasks. Employer reserves the right to terminate a worker if the performance is unsatisfactory, or if an unqualified or insubordinate worker is physically able but unwilling to perform at the employer’s standards, or for any other lawful reason. Discipline of workers may include suspension of work activities or employment for a set period determined by the supervisor or termination of employment. All terms and conditions included in the job order will apply equally to all workers, both U.S. workers and H-2A workers, employed in the occupation described in this job order.
