Job Duties:

POSITION DESCRIPTION: In the vineyard and in the shop which is on the farm: The Assistant Vineyard Mechanic is responsible for the general maintenance of all vineyard equipment.  Under limited supervision this position will perform repairs, modifications and develop and maintain a preventative maintenance schedule on vineyard equipment, irrigation and frost control systems. Repair or replace defective parts, using hand tools and welding equipment. Fabricate new metal parts, using drill presses, engine lathes, and other machine tools. Will perform some building maintenance. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide day-to-day maintenance for all vineyard equipment and perform hands-on tasks in workshop/vineyard area; and install, maintain, and repair a wide range of vineyard equipment. Perform regular maintenance on all machinery, oil, oil filter, fuel filter, air filter, plugs, belts and electrical.  Check and adjust timing, fluid levels, tire pressure, loose knobs/handles. Assist with maintenance projects that may include welding, electrical and fixing irrigation pumps.  Service and maintain company vehicles and trucks. Maintain inventory of shop tools and supplies. Assist with maintaining accurate records of all vineyard shop equipment. Develop and maintain a preventative maintenance schedule to ensure all vehicles and equipment receive regular tune-ups and other scheduled maintenance. Set up and prepare equipment for various vineyard tasks; safely and correctly hook up all machine cultivation, spray equipment and other tractor attachments prior to use in the vineyard. Regularly inspect vehicles, tractors, and other equipment for needed repairs/ adjustments.

Special Requirements:

Minimum Job Qualifications: 3 months of experience working with vineyard equipment is required. Specific requirements include lifting up to 50 pounds frequently and being able to use hand tools and mechanical equipment and tools. Must be able to work under conditions where skin and clothing become heavily soiled with mud, water, grease, etc. Must be able to work outdoors in inclement weather conditions, including rain, cold, high winds, etc. Work involves frequent bending and working in bent or stooped positions. Must be able to walk and stand up extensively. No smoking, alcohol, firearms in the field or residential housing.
