Job Duties:
Cutters: For workers who are assigned as cutters, the supervisor on duty will explain what the warehouse is asking for that particular day including the requested size, weight, and sugar level of the Watermelon. From there they will have to carry out their work following the instructions of the supervisor. Cutting any other type of watermelon that was not instructed by the supervisor/ Employer is NOT allowed. The only watermelon that is allowed to be cut will be any considered "Quality 1 Watermelon" which is considered to be not ripe enough, rotten, bitten by animals, etc. They must perform extremely careful work with each watermelon that passes through the unloading conveyor belt for unloading, cleaning, labeling, and classifying by size, weight, color, etc. They will then pack them into boxes that go directly to the store, always following the orders of the supervisor or the on-duty managers. May operate farm equipment and farm vehicles within the farm. On occasion, we will also harvest Honeydew melon. Workers will cut and pack Honeydews in bins to unload at the warehouse. This job will be paid at an hourly rate. The employee should follow supervisor in charge instructions at all times in regard to what the farmer is asking for in regard to size, color of the melon, among other indications. Performing tasks such as using long-handled hoes for weeding, transplanting, cutting runners, thinning plants, maintaining the ranch, setting up and relocating irrigation equipment, repairing irrigation lines, removing plastic, pulling drip tape, and cleaning both old and new vegetative growth on plant beds. Loaders: The level of the product carried may vary depending on the trailer used due to the length and height of trailer, the crew supervisor will mark how high the fruit should go on that specific trailer. For the workers who are assigned in the loading area, their task will be to load the watermelon previously chosen and cut ONLY by the cutters. Workers are not allowed to cut watermelon from the ground or load any watermelon that has not been previously picked and cut by the authorized cutter. Workers are not allowed to hit or damage the watermelon when they are being loaded into the trailer, otherwise if the warehouse rejects a percent of the product on the trailer due to damage product, watermelon torn from the bushes by force, or watermelon in poor condition considered "Watermelon# 3", this percent will be subject to a reduction of the workers involved in that specific load. Workers will be told until what level of the trailer you are allowed to load in order to avoid damaging any watermelon and loading the trailer with overweight. A supervisor will always be near each trailer to be able to enforce what was previously requested. A supervisor will always be near each trailer to be able to enforce what was previously requested. Loaders who do not meet the quality standard will be given 2 documented warnings, after that, they will be terminated.
