- We need to service our cotton trucks beginning roughly 60-90 days in advance of our normal season to ensure they are in proper working order and all state regulations are met or exceeded. The farm mechanic of these machines will then transition into a truck driver for the remainder of our normal season with mechanic duties as required to keep trucks operating. Job duties will include: operate other farm equipment, load and unload crops or materials, manually or using conveyors, hand trucks, forklifts, or transfer augers, observe and listen to machinery operation to detect equipment malfunctions, weigh crop-filled containers, and record weights and other identifying information, record agricultural data, inspect, adjust, and complete mechanical maintenance and repairs on equipment including dismantle defective machines for repair, using hand tools, examine and listen to equipment, read inspection reports, and confer with customers to locate and diagnose malfunctions, maintain, repair, and overhaul farm machinery and vehicles, such as tractors, harvesters, and irrigation systems, reassemble machines and equipment following repair, testing operation and making adjustments, as necessary, tune or overhaul engines, adjust equipment to ensure optimal performance, clean equipment, parts, or tools to repair or maintain them in good working order, inspect mechanical equipment to locate damage, defects, or wear, install machine or equipment replacement parts, lubricate equipment to allow proper functioning, reassemble equipment after repair, repair defective engines or engine components check vehicles to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order, collect delivery instructions from appropriate sources, verifying instructions and routes, drive trucks with capacities greater than 3 tons, including tractor-trailer combinations, to transport and deliver products, or other materials, follow appropriate safety procedures for transporting dangerous goods, load or unload trucks or help others with loading or unloading, using special loading-related equipment or other equipment as necessary, maintain logs of working hours or of vehicle service or repair status, following applicable state and federal regulations, maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions, following signals from loading crew and checking that vehicle and loading equipment are properly positioned, operate equipment, such as truck cab computers, CB radios, phones, or global positioning systems (GPS) equipment to exchange necessary information with bases, supervisors, or other drivers, perform basic vehicle maintenance tasks, such as adding oil, fuel, or radiator fluid, performing minor repairs, or washing trucks, perform emergency roadside repairs, such as changing tires or installing light bulbs, tire chains, or spark plugs, read and interpret maps to determine vehicle routes, report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles. Employee will also need to purchase needed parts/lubricants from suppliers and service light-duty pickups if required. Employer may provide pay increases for performance, longevity and/or experience at employer’s discretion. Employer may provide performance bonuses at the end of the contract at the employer’s discretion.
