- Rockin' R Farms is a family-owned and operated agricultural business with grain and livestock. Our operation focuses on rearing black Angus steer calves through backgrounding pasture grazing and developing them into yearlings for sale to finish operations. In addition, we produce forage hay, corn, and soybeans on 3600 acres of land. Our crop season commences in March with planting, and after nurturing the crops through the summer, we harvest them in the fall, completing the season by December. In March, we procure 2500-3000 calves that require care throughout the spring, summer, and fall. We raise them until they are yearlings and sell most of them before December. After the sale, we are left with a small herd of 500 cows that can be managed by their full-time permanent staff. Our farm values are deeply rooted in family traditions, which is why we maintain them throughout our operations.
As a farm worker at Rockin' R Farms, you are responsible for a variety of tasks. These include preparing fields for planting, attaching farm implements to tractors, operating tractors, sprayers, seed drills, and other farm equipment, engaging in planting, weeding, spraying, and harvesting activities, loading and unloading crops or materials, manipulating controls to set and adjust machinery mechanisms, observing and listening to machinery operation to detect equipment malfunctions, driving farm trucks to haul crops, supplies, and tools, inspecting and maintaining equipment (washing and cleaning equipment and vehicles), machinery, buildings (cleaning workshop), pens, yards, and fences, marking livestock to identify ownership and grade, mixing feed, additives, and medicines, providing medical treatment to animals, segregating animals according to weight, age, color, and physical condition, spraying livestock with disinfectants and insecticides, and more. You are also responsible for cleaning stalls, pens, and equipment, examining animals to detect illness, injury, or other problems, maintaining inventories of materials, equipment, or products, operating farming equipment, and transporting animals, crops, or equipment. In addition, you are required to sort calves and yearlings for size and condition, help haul supplement feed and minerals to grazing locations with feed trucks and tractor-wagon combinations, and operate farm trucks to haul crops in the fall from field to storage locations.
