- Job Duties:
- General farm worker needed for cattle, soybean and sugarcane farming. Work includes operating of farm equipment, vehicles, operating of tractors, tractor drawn machinery and self-propelled machinery used to plow, till, harrow, apply fertilizer, herbicides and pesticides to crops; plant, cultivate, and harvest of crops by hand or machine. Cut sugarcane with machetes into segments, load wagons with sugarcane stalks. May work in groups to hand plant sugarcane in furrows while walking/following moving wagon. Workers must reach and pull to remove precut stalks from trailer, while bending and/or stooping, place, straighten and plant sugarcane pieces. Pickup dropped sugarcane in fields. Work also includes field prep, water maintenance, cleaning drains with shovel, walk fields, check for standing water, manually plant, cultivate and harvest as required. Field prep includes manual shovel work and hoeing of weeds, spot spray, transplant, and general farm labor. Help repair and maintain barns, (climb 6-50 ft ladders), buildings, cattle, corrals, equip (all farm, mechanical and vehicle), farm, fences, fields, irrigation, levees, pastures, ponds, properties, roads, ryegrass fields, shed, shop, and water troughs. Cattle includes manually repair and maintain
fence, hauling and feeding hay, assist in calving, clean stalls, water and feed, assist with gates, count heads, and brand. Use of hand tools such as machetes, hoes, knives, shovels, tampers, and trowels. Clean and load harvested crops, unload trucks, haul to bins, dryer or mill. May deliver to market. In September once cane harvest begins work schedule may be adjusted, as assigned by the mill, beginning as early as 2 AM. Worker must be able to lift/carry 50 lbs. M-F, some Sat/Sun, work in excess of 40 hours may vary. Employees may be compensated above the stated hourly wage, this decision to pay above the prevailing hourly wage will be made by the employer, basing this decision on factors that include the individual recipient's performance and work history. Allergies to ragweed, goldenrod, insects/insecticides and related chemicals, fungicides, and pesticides, etc. may affect workers’ ability to perform the job. Employer may require post hire, random, upon suspicion or post-accident drug testing, all at no cost to employee. Testing positive or failure to comply may result in immediate termination from employment. Job involves stooping, lifting, and working outside in inclement weather. Must have 3 months exp in similar position.
