- POTATO HARVEST JOB DUTIES AT STORAGE BUILDINGS: Move and set up potato conveyor and piler line, lay out culverts, guide potato trucks to potato line, monitor flow of potatoes from trucks onto potato line, remove corn stalks, dirt, rock, rotten potatoes and other debris from potato line, position culverts for ventilation system, monitor potato line to make sure potatoes are not backing up, clean dirt and debris from work area with shovels and brooms and load into wheelbarrow, dump wheelbarrows into skid-steer, empty skid-steer into debris truck and weigh at scale, empty debris truck, ensure all potatoes are removed from equipment and trucks and sanitize equipment between lots and fields, setup and fill large plastic totes for storing potatoes, move totes around with fork lift, move equipment between storages, and collect potato samples off of the line. Fence repair, brush removal, general cleanup. JOB DUTIES FOR SHIPPING POTATOES FROM STORAGE: Operate equipment to load seed potatoes onto lines to ship on trucks, set up potato conveyor and piler line, sanitize equipment, guide potato trucks to potato line, monitor flow of potatoes onto potato line, remove culverts from under potatoes, remove corn stalks, dirt, rock, rotten potatoes and other debris from potato line, clean dirt and debris from work area with shovels and brooms and load into wheelbarrow or skid-steer, dump wheelbarrows into skid-steer, empty skid-steer into debris truck and weigh at scale, empty debris truck, ensure all potatoes are removed from equipment and trucks between lots, clean and sanitize line and trucks, add wood chips to floor off refrigerated trucks OTHER POST-HARVEST JOB DUTIES: Weigh and cut samples collected for post-harvest testing of potatoes. Core potatoes and place cores in plastic bags or on FTA cards
The hours listed in block A.6 represent the normal work schedule. Due to the nature of seed potatoes, weather, and the requirement to harvest only during a specific soil temperature and soil moisture range, it is the prevailing practice to work substantially more, less, or different hours than those listed, sometimes for extended periods of time. When the number of hours for a week exceeds the number listed in section A.6, the worker may be offered, but not required, to work more hours.
