- The worker must be in good physical / mental health and have the ability to operate company owned tractor trailer. Worker must drive trucks safely and efficiently over difficult roads, both on-road (paved) and off-road conditions.Worker must possess the ability to read a map, understand directions, use GPS and successfully navigate to a specific location; regularly climb up and down, on, into and out of truck.Must be able to operate other trailers or semi trailers and must have sufficient knowledge of truck mechanics to make simple and minor adjustments and repairs to trucks. Position requires more skill and experience than regular truck drivers. Applicant must have twelve months, referenced, paid production experience as a semi truck driver. Must have Class A CDL commercial driver license (or foreign equivalent) for semi tractor trailer truck driver. Driver's license background check is required. Driver's must have an acceptable driving record and be insurable by employers insurance company. Driver must pass mandated drug and alcohol tests including random drug and alcohol testing at any given time. Drug & alcohol testing costs are incurred by the employer. Comply with state and federal truck driving rules, DOT regulations (logbooks, size, weight, route designations, parking and break periods) as well as with company policies and procedures. Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions. Keep record of pre-trip and post-trip inspections. Inspect trucks for mechanical items and safety issues and perform preventative maintenance. Fastens chains or binders to secure load on trailer during transit. Pick-up and carry paper records of the goods being transported, in the event of a D.O.T. roadside inspection. Follow applicable traffic laws. Drive safely and at the speed limit. Physical Requirements: Driving environment: 70-80% of on-duty time will be in the truck. Exposed to noise and vibration levels which may be higher than those experienced in passenger cars. Drivers may also spend some time outdoors, exposed to potentially difficult environment conditions. Temperatures may range from 10 to 100 F. Communicates orally with management, employees, co-workers, vendors, and the general public by telephone or in person, in one-on-one or group settings. Regularly uses a telephone with bluetooth headset for hands fee use. Required to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods of time during work shift. . Routinely required to stoop, bend, kneel, lift, and reach, in the performance of job function. Requires the essential use of hands, speech, eyesight, and hearing. Lifting limitations for this position: 50-75 lbs. Vision requirements include close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral and depth vision, and the ability to adjust focus as needed.
Workers may be required to work during occasional rain showers not severe enough to stop operations. Workers will report to work at the designated time and place as directed by the supervisor each day. The standard work day is 8-10 hours per day. Employees may volunteer to work additional hours when work is available.
