Job Duties:

Workers will perform assigned duties as instructed by their supervisor. Duties may vary from time to time. Clearing ground of rocks, sticks, & roots by hand, clear brush and trees with chain saw. General Field & Maintenance: Use wood to build and repair boxes for digger. Manually weeding fields by hand or using hand tools. Drain water from fields with hand tools and shovel when needed. Load & unload boxes on trucks, trailers, or sweet potato harvesters. Perform minor repairs, maintain, and clean all hand tools and mechanical equipment prior to and after use. Cut firewood. Repair existing barns or potato sheds. Must be able to work with minimum supervision. Workers may be asked to operate farm equipment, drive all tractors (in the field), and implements on farm including: grain buggy, skid steer, forklift, potato digger, water trailer to water plants, and any other equipment related to harvesting of crops. Safety training for use of farm equipment and tractors will be provided. Sweet Potatoes - Use of mechanical digging equipment to dig potatoes. May also harvest potatoes by hand with use of buckets. Must be able to sort, grade, & pack potatoes by size, quality, or type. May also cultivate & harvest the following: Purple Hull Peas, Watermelons, Beans, Corn, Squash, Okra, and Cotton - Wrap ties around cotton bales, banding/unbanding, moving bales with dolly, loosening bales and loading bales on tractor. Keep wet cotton separate from dry cotton. Workers with valid drivers license may be asked to transport worker to/from housing to worksite(s) and to/from the grocery store each week.

Special Requirements:

Applicants must be 18 years or older. Job requires 3 months experience for mechanical diggers, sorting and grading sweet potatoes. Employer may conduct criminal background checks on all new applicants at employer's expense. Appropriate drivers license required to operate company vehicles. All tools, supplies, and equipment will be provided at no cost to workers. Lifting requirement may have a range of 5-60 lbs. Safety training for use of farm equipment and tractors will be provided. To ensure the safety of all employees, those interested in operating machinery must be able to communicate with and adequately follow instructions given by management. Management reserves the right to restrict employees from operational duties who do not show a proficiency to effectively communicate with management and may therefore place other employees' safety at risk. No cell phones on the job. Cell phone use will not be allowed in the field. The majority of the workday is spent on one's feet and outdoor
