Job Duties:
Worker will be required to perform a variety of duties related to the production of greens, cabbage, sweet potatoes, strawberries, pecans, sweet corn, cantaloupe, watermelon, squash, cucumbers, southern peas, pinto beans, onions, potatoes, ornamentals, green beans, peaches, figs, blackberries, elderberries, muscadines, apples, and pears. The majority of the work activities during the overall contract period, however, will be related to general farm work and crop production. Duties related to general farm work may include the following: maintain, drive, attach and operate farm implements/tractors/equipment to till soil, plant, cultivate, fertilize, and harvest crops; make minor mechanical adjustments and repairs on farm machinery; report mechanical problems to farm mechanic and/or supervisor; mix and/or spray chemicals such as herbicides, fungicides, and pesticides (according to appropriate restrictive use laws, when/if applicable) by hand or machine; use mechanized or hand tools such as shovels, trowels, hoes, tampers, pruning tools, shears, knives, saws, ladders, etc.; carry and position work aids such as ladders, canvas drop-cloths, buckets, harnesses, and bags; climb in and out of tall trucks and various truck beds and/or trailers; lift items such as rolls of plastic, bundles of wire, and rolls of drip tape overhead; maintain/repair fencing; clean/paint/repair/maintain farm structures/greenhouses/grounds; remove undesirable and excess growth such as weeds and grass from crops or farm grounds; clear trees/wood from land/ cut/chop/ stack wood; perform general clean-up of farm areas and worksites; clear property; clear and burn roots and brush; prepare fields, seed beds, containers, plastic growing beds, etc.; form bed with plastic and or drip tape installed; build/install/maintain trellises; establish, maintain, plant, transplant, propagate, and grow crops in field and greenhouse with machine or by hand; move/lift containerized plants/vines/trees; start fans that circulate air or light smudge pots or torches; walk behind equipment to ensure plant placement (unclog planter if necessary); haul/spread soil/products/fertilizer/composted material to condition land; mix planting soil; dig/rake and screen soil and fill cold frames/hot beds; observe/inspect general condition of crops/plants/vines/trees and apply the appropriate care; remove dead plants and replace with seeds or live plants; identify/remove/cull product that is misshapen, damaged, unwanted, or inferior; identify and remove stubs or broken branches, downward-growing branches, branches which rub against each other, shaded interior branches, dead wood and shoots/suckers; prune/thin plants/vines/trees from ground, ladder, or motorized platform using a variety of hand and/or mechanized pruning equipment; stake, train, position, prop, clip, and tie plants/vines/trees/limbs; dig/wrap/shape roots of plants/vines/trees; kneel to pin burlap on root ball; crimp wire baskets on root balls; put ball and burlap dug plants into containers and fill containers with potting material; tie plants up before digging; sow grass seed and/or plant plugs of sod; remove plastic stakes/strings/wires from fields, trellises or other structures; perform any other labor considered necessary for the efficient structure of properties and growth of crops; workers possessing the proper licensure may be asked to transport other farm workers.

Special Requirements:
Applicants must have 1 month experience with the hand harvest of vegetables, be able to bend and preform work at ground level, and provide the contact information of at least one reference who can verify experience and performance. Company policy expressly forbids the use or possession of drugs/alcohol at the worksite or in employer-provided housing. Violation of this policy will result in immediate termination.
