- ELUL Farms are looking for seasonal workers to assist from October to August. Our sheep season starts with the following duties from October through November: Working pregnant ewes in preparation for lambing and assisting with lambing continuously in shifts. In December through February, duties will include attending to pastured lambs and ewes during cold weather. From March through May, responsibilities will include weaning of lambs in March and working with sheep to prepare rams for breeding. This includes working with lambs by weighing them, deworming, and vaccinating as needed. In June, duties will include working lambs by sorting them for finishing. Finishing and sale of lambs will take place from June to July. In July, tasks will involve brush-hogging and maintenance of pasture. In August, the season comes to an end as lambs have been sold, and ewes are left on pasture to gestate with minimal intervention. Additionally, daily activities could include feeding the livestock guardian dogs. Other essential tasks involve examining animals to detect illness, injury, or disease, providing medical treatment such as administering medications and vaccinations, arranging for veterinarians to provide more extensive treatment as needed, segregating animals according to weight, age, color, and physical condition, shifting animals between grazing areas to ensure sufficient access to food, and operating farming equipment as required. No additional help is needed after the lambs are sold.
ELUL Farms' crop season is from October until June. From October through November will focus on preparing cropping equipment and planting spring crops for grazing and harvest. In December through February, responsibilities will include servicing and cleaning cropping equipment for optimal performance. March through May tasks will involve crop testing, amendment application, and haying activities. June will center on crop harvesting. Throughout the entire season, job duties will include preparing fields, attaching and operating farm implements such as plows, discs, sprayers, or harvesters, fertilizing, dusting, and spraying crops, loading and unloading materials manually or using equipment, observing machinery operation for malfunctions, conducting routine maintenance and repairs, driving trucks and tractors for transportation and distribution of crops and supplies, and operating farming equipment. No help is needed with the crops after the harvest is completed in June until the season starts again in October. Employer may provide pay increases for performance, longevity and/or experience at employer’s discretion., Employer may provide performance bonuses at the end of the contract at the employer’s discretion.
