- Job Duties:
- Workers will perform assigned duties as instructed by their supervisor. Duties may vary from time to time. Clear ground of rocks, sticks, and roots by hand, clear brush & trees with a chainsaw or related hand tools. Workers will cultivate and hand harvest sweet corn. Sweet corn is hand harvested by workers on a “Mule Train”. The job starts with the box makers making the boxes and then the boxes are passed to the packers. In the meantime, the harvesters will cut (break) the corn from the stalk by hand and then give the corn to the packers. The packers will then place the corn into the boxes and once boxes are filled, the packers will pass the full box to the “box tie men”. The box tie men will then close and stack the boxes. All packing will take place in the fields. Job duties include, but are not limited to, the following: shovel, level, haul, spread rock, dig holes, ditches, and trenches, mowing and trimming grass. Use hand tools such as shovels, trawls, hoes, grass trimmer, mower and knives. Duties may include tilling soil, thinning, and spraying insecticide. May make minor repairs to existing fences as general farm labor. May inspect field irrigation systems; replace damaged pipes, valves, water jets, sprinklers, etc. using necessary equipment. May use the following equipment: tractor, cultivator, hand saws, shovels, rakes, hand tools and ride on the “Mule Train”. **The ability of an employee to safely operate machinery and vehicles will be left up to the discretion of management. To ensure the safety of all employees, those interested in operating machinery and vehicles must be able to communicate with employer and adequately follow instructions given by management. Management reserves the right to restrict employees from operational duties who do not show a proficiency to effectively communicate with management and may therefore place other employees’ safety at risk.
