- Temporary Seasonal Position: Livestock Production and Handler
This job is seasonal in nature based on the expected and necessary work associated with breeding mature animals, handling and protecting pregnant livestock, assisting with birth of livestock, weaning young livestock, and working young livestock after weaning. We typically wean young livestock in late October or early November, handle and protect mature livestock over winter, assist with delivering young livestock from March through May, and work young livestock from May through mid July.
This position requires attending to live ranch animals, including but not limited to cattle, sheep and horses. Must attend to animals produced for animal products, such as meat and wool. Duties may include feeding, watering, herding, grazing, castrating, branding, tagging, sheering, washing, weighing, catching, loading, examining for detection of disease and injuries, assisting in birth deliveries, administering medications and vaccinations, cleaning and maintaining housing areas, and repairing fences, cattle guards, gates, and other structures or facilities used for housing, loading, or penning livestock. Assist with weed control on grazing areas (including noxious, invasive and poisonous plant species). Monitor grazing areas for poisonous and/or noxious plants and take action to prevent livestock from consuming any identified. Move pregnant livestock at a pace sufficient to ensure they receive ample water / forage during daylight hours before bedding down at night. May be required to drive feed trucks, tractors, ATVs, and skid steers.
