- Job Duties:
- We have cattle that will need to be cared for from December to the end of March. Cattle will be confined for winter calving. Employees will need to care for cattle during the confinement period. Employees will need to check the water tanks, and using a pickup truck for hauling water, to make sure there is water always available, check to be sure there are no sick cows, and doctoring when needed. In January the cows will need to be moved to a dry lot where they will need to be fed daily. Employee duties will include assisting with pulling a calf, trailering them to the veterinarian if needed, and doctoring calves. In February cows will be put into their calving pastures to calve. In April, they will be branded and vaccinated before released to summer pasture. Employees will complete all cattle care as assigned, and some general farm duties. In April/May, cows/calves will be moved to grass pasture where they will be grazing until the confinement period in December. No care, feeding or water will be needed while in pastures. We only need seasonal assistance during the very labor-intensive calving season. Job duties will include: clean stalls, pens, and equipment, using disinfectant solutions, brushes, shovels, water hoses, or pumps, examine animals to detect illness, injury, or disease, and to check physical characteristics, such as rate of weight gain, feed and water livestock and monitor food and water supplies, herd livestock to pastures for grazing or to scales, pickup trucks, or other enclosures, mark livestock to identify ownership and grade, using brands, tags, paint, or tattoos, mix feed, additives, and medicines in prescribed portions, examine animals to detect illness, injury or other problems, transport animals, crops, or equipment, treat animal injuries or illnesses.
