This job requires a minimum of 3 months of prior verifiable experience working in a field harvest/field packing crew on a vegetable farm. Workers must be able to perform all duties with accuracy, efficiency and an eye to quality standards to ensure the production of a premium quality product. Workers will harvest crops, including, but not limited to, broccoli and cauliflower. Workers will field pack broccoli and cauliflower in cartons at a rate of 4 pallets per hour for crown and 3 pallets per hour for bunches. There will be no mechanical cultivation or planting tasks involved under this labor certification, other than transplanting cauliflower and broccoli. Work will involve cutting broccoli and cauliflower, bunching broccoli, stacking cartons, making cartons. Considerable stooping and kneeling is required. Care must be taken to prevent damaging produce.
Work is to be done in the field for long periods of time. Workers will perform duties including boxing, weighing and loading of product. Workers will assist in loading trucks with product weighing up to and including 50 pounds and lifting to a height of 5 feet for long periods of time.
Workers should be able to work on their feet in bent positions for long periods of time. Work requires repetitive movements and extensive walking. Allergies to ragweed, goldenrod, honey bees, insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, or related chemicals may affect a worker's ability to perform the job. Workers should be physically able to do the work required with or without reasonable accommodations. Saturday work required. Must be able to lift/carry 50 lbs. Vegetable boxes weigh a max of approximately 45 pounds. For safety of the workers, weight requirement will be 50 pounds to prevent and avoid injury.
Work required in fields when plants are wet with dew and rain, and may be required during light rain, moderate winds, direct sun, high humidity and extreme temperatures. Temperatures in fields during working hours can range from 20 to over 100 degrees F. Workers may be required to work during occasional showers not severe enough to stop field operations.
Employer assures that workers will be provided, at no cost, transportation from living quarters to work site every day (for workers who must be provided housing under the applicable regulations).
Persons seeking employment as experienced vegetable harvester/field packer must be available for the entire period requested by the employer.
Applicants must be able to furnish verifiable job reference(s) or comparable third party documentation from recent employer(s) establishing acceptable prior experience.
Workers failing to produce a sufficient number of piece rate units to earn the Adverse Effect Wage Rate (AEWR) for all hours worked during a pay period will be paid on an hourly basis at the AEWR for that pay period. Workers paid on an hourly basis who fail to perform their duties in a timely and proficient manner will be provided up to three warnings, and will be coached/instructed on working faster and more efficiently. Worker may be terminated upon issuance of third warning.
Raises and/or bonuses may be offered to any seasonal worker employed pursuant to this job order, at the company's sole discretion, based on individual factors including work performance, skill, and tenure.
Employer reserves the right to discharge an obviously unqualified worker, malingerer or recalcitrant worker who is physically able but is unwilling to perform the work necessary for the employer to grow a premium quality product, or for any other lawful reason.
