- Job Duties:
- Workers will be tasked with performing a variety of job duties related to the production, care, and winter preparation of nursery trees and stock. These tasks will include loading, unloading transported plants and trees, wrapping, mulching, arranging, and harvesting plant materials such as trees and shrubs, performing necessary root cuttings, preparing soils in seed beds for the next planting season, and planting seeds and bulbs in controlled greenhouse environments. Various daily activities include inspect existing plant inventory for signs of disease, pest infestations, or stress, trim deadhead plants to promote healthy growth and maintain an appealing appearance, water, and fertilize plants as needed to ensure they remain vigorous during the transition to cooler weather and repot plants that have outgrown their containers to prevent root-bound issues. Additional responsibilities will encompass cleaning drainage ways, road shoulders, and ditches, and installing erosion control measures like blankets, fabric, and wattles, identify irrigation system repairs, and winter tree wrapping maintaining, and yard areas winter preparation. Our harvest season in the Fall is very short because we must wait for the plants to shut down growth and enter dormancy. We can only harvest plants that are dormant for our customers to plant them and be successful. These tasks will be conducted using a combination of mechanical equipment and hand tools, which encompass tractors, skid loaders, wheel loaders, excavators, backhoes, tillers, rippers, land planes, grain drills, as well as hand tools like shovels, pickaxes, cutters, and rakes. The necessary tools will be provided by the employer. Workers who operate equipment will perform daily driving and attaching farm implements. Adequate training will be provided to all equipment operators, ensuring their familiarity with safe operation and daily maintenance requirements.
