- Job Duties:
- Manually plant, cultivate, and harvest field crops. Use hand tools, such as shovels, trowels, hoes, tampers, pruning hooks, shears, and knives. Duties may include tilling soil and applying fertilizers; transplanting, weeding, thinning, or pruning crops; applying pesticides; and cleaning, grading, sorting, packing, and loading harvested products. May repair and maintain fences and farm buildings, farm vehicles, and farm equipment. May participate in irrigation activities, including assisting in filling small planes with products for aerial application in the fields. May drive equipment to support agricultural activities such as tilling soil and planting, cultivating, and harvesting crops. May perform tasks such as crop baling or hay bucking. May operate stationary equipment to perform post-harvest tasks such as husking, shelling, threshing, and ginning. May haul grain to elevator for storage.
The work day may begin / end earlier or later on any given day and evening. Typical workweek is Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., with potential nights and weekends required depending on the crops and weather.
