Animal caretaking accounts for 25% of the job. Animal caretaking responsibilities will be required of the worker during foaling season. During foaling season, which occurs in January and February, there is a temporary increased need of labor to supplement our U.S. labor because of the additional work created by the foaling of horses. During this time, we must have additional help cleaning stalls, watering horses, getting the horses vaccinated, and feeding the horses, which all takes additional labor hours during the foaling season because of the fragile nature of the newborn horses. As the newborn horses mature, they become more self-sufficient and require less intensive care, reducing the number of hours required caretaking for the horses. In the foals first hours of life, it is imperative the foal receives adequate nutrition. This comes from colostrum, which is only produced by the mare in the first hours after birth. The worker will be responsible for collecting and administering the colostrum.
