- Job Duties:
- Record information about crops such as pesticide use, yields, or costs; Participate in the inspection, grading, sorting, storage, and post-harvest treatment of crops; Set up, repair, maintain, and operate equipment including irrigation equipment; Inform farm managers of crop progress; Identify plants, pests, and weeds to determine the selection and application of pesticides and fertilizers; Operate tractors, tractor-drawn machinery, and self-propelled machinery (much of which is equipped with GPS) to plow, harrow and fertilize soil, or to plant, cultivate, spray and harvest grain and forage crops; Load agricultural products into trucks without over or underfilling bed or trailer, and drive to market or storage facilities; Clean work areas and maintain grounds and landscaping; Maintain inventory by procuring parts and ordering parts; Attend to live farm animals including cattle by calving cows and heifers, moving cows to forest service allotments, weaning calves, sorting cattle for market; Trap and destroy pests such as moles, gophers, and mice; Haul and spread topsoil, fertilizer, and other materials to condition soil; Repair farm buildings, fences, and other structures; Mix materials, dump solutions or seeds into planter or sprayer machinery; Attach implements using hand tools; Weigh containers and record weights and identifying information; Position boxes/bags at ends of machinery to catch products, remove and close full containers.
