Job Description

Full Time:
Yes
Number of Workers Requested:

Job Duties:
Job Description: The worker will perform job duties as assigned by the supervisor. They will vary from time to time depending on crop ripening and weather. The harvesting and packing of said crops are temporary. Watermelon/Melon/Bean: Hand Harvesting. To perform this kind of work, the worker must be able to walk down the field row and use a knife to hand-cut crops off the vine for harvesting. • Watermelon/Melon: The crops are then loaded in a bus by forming part of an assembly line. The first worker bends down and picks up the crop, which is passed on to consecutive workers by passing, catching, and lifting until it reaches the worker on the bus, who then sets it down and stacks it until the bus is considered full. • Beans are picked and placed in a basket and loaded onto the truck. Watermelon/Melon/Bean Packing—Crops are transported by bus to the packing shed. Upon arrival, they are unloaded by a group of workers and placed on a conveyor belt. The workers on the conveyor belt are responsible for sorting, labeling, and packing the crops in cardboard containers. While the workers wait for the next crop load to arrive, they will be responsible for assembling cardboard containers. Field Drivers- The field drivers will drive the buses out to the field, where the field workers who are harvesting the product will load the product onto the bus until it is full. They will then drive the fully loaded bus back to the packing shed, where the packing shed workers will unload it onto a belt. The process is then repeated. Farm Equipment and Vehicles: The workers may need to use various farm equipment and vehicles to transport them/or other workers to and throughout the worksite to perform the crop harvesting work. The workers must use safety and precautions when using the farm equipment and vehicles. All passengers must be seated and practice safety and precautions when using the farm equipment and vehicles. The passengers must wait to exit the farm equipment and vehicles when the driver comes to a complete stop and gets off the vehicle. The workers will keep the farm equipment and vehicles free of trash. All of the product harvesting, packing, and transporting labor is performed on the farms, specifically in the worksites listed on the application and itinerary, and is all part of Wade Pennington & Sons, LLC's farming operation. The field drivers, who are Wade Pennington & Sons, LLC employees, drive the field buses to load the watermelons and take them to the shed for packing. The packing shed workers are also Wade Pennington & Sons, LLC employees. The packing shed is located on the farms listed on the harvesting itinerary. Crop packing is considered agriculture labor because the work is being done on a farm. Watermelons, Melons, and Beans are horticultural commodities that must be packed by grade before leaving the farm for selling purposes at the market. The crops are in an unmanufactured state at the time of packing, and all the crops are produced on the farm. Wade Pennington & Sons, LLC is the operator of the farms for the requested time period.
