Job Duties:
Brownwood Farm is an exceptionally well-located and proven horse farm consisting of 420.55 acres. It has been a leading North American Thoroughbred breeding, foaling, and waning facility for over fifty years. There are six horse barns with 96 stalls, nine run-in sheds, and an open bay frame equipment shed. The breeding season is dictated by the horses' natural occurring seasons. That is, mares naturally ovulate during the longest days of the year. As such, in the Northern Hemisphere, breeding season typically begins in January and extends to the beginning of July and weaning takes place from July to the end of September. The additional workers are needed as the mares are sent in from other farms and the breeding gets into full swing with the mares being covered one after another. the grooms will attend to the overall care of the Thoroughbred racehorses during the breeding period which include grooming the horses before, during and after breeding. Responsible for the safety and well-being of the horses and workers around them. Will monitor the mares conditions and take additional care to ensure the safe delivery of their foals. Will administer medication and/or treat the horses under the supervision of the farm manager. Treatment may very from the use of bandages to rehabilitation exercises or intravenous medication. Must know how to properly apply bandages. Will assist in the breeding of the mares by holding the mares as the stallions cover the mares. Will also utilize the equipment within the breeding shed. Will assist in the care and treatment of the newborn foals.

Workers should be able to lift 50 lbs. to feed horses and climb up into trainer/storage bins to retrieve hay and/or straw. Workers should be physically fit to stand, bend, walk, push/pull and perform work duties for the hours required. May have to endure extreme weather conditions of high heat, humidity, wind, rain, and possible storms. Workers must arrive at the scheduled start time each work day and competently perform work duties until the designated end time.
